12 years ago almost to the day, we'd just lost to Oldham in the FA Cup quarters and I was living in Southampton at the time so I'm on the platform at Bolton station thinking "we've just fucked up, it's pissing down, I'm soaked and it'll be 1.30 in the morning before I get home"...and I did wonder why I bother. But I'd kept going through all the 80s despite living in London, so I could hardly stop really....

i remember that day as if it was yesterday , it took me months to get over that one , kicked off like fook on bradshawgate afterwards :D apparently they were hibs fans :-k

Started going in 82/3, the first season in the old Third, never thought of giving up, that's 100% honest.

Not when we was playing chester, with 3,000 on burnden and it was pissing down :D

Not then, not ever. My grandad was at Wembley in 1923, my dad in 1958 and I was the proudest schoolboy in Bolton in 1985, even if it was the Freight Rover! :D

It's in the blood; the games are better in the Premiership with full houses and class players but rather that Chester game then any Man U or Liverpool game.

Never ever ever.

But i must admit joining in with the "Allardyce Out" chants at Cambridge Utd in Jan 2000 FA Cup 4.

A week after Tranmere in Coca.

Ive never thought about giving up. But remeber leaving Prenton calling Allardyce all the names under the sun.Was getting a lift back to Huddersfield off a Trashmere fan!!

Went to Cambridge week after and at half time Allardyce got more stick as we were 1 down! After we squeezed through he commented on how pleased he was for the fans behind the goal who really go tbehind the team!! :D

Just for the record ive taken it all back and Im glad he didnt fcuk off

Did anyone on here ever think about giving up watching the wanderers.

i know a few who did , including my owd man who packed it in after we got relegated from the owd first division in 78/79

be honest

Never! The only thing I could think about when leaving for Oz in '88 was my beloved BWFC. My old man took me to my first ever game (I'm an owd bastid remember!) which was our last game in the old Div.1 (62-63 was it - can't remember and can't be arsed researching). Remember grown men crying and general suicidal tendencies all around me in the Embankment and thinking 'I thought that this was supposed to be fun!'.

Hooked ever since. Early memories of sone Bolton legends like Tommy Banks, Roy Hartle etc. Had some massive disappointments over the years but would change fcuk all. It's the bad times that make these good times so bloody good.

I agree with the general sentiment expressed in this thread. Give me the atmosphere of Chesterfield or Hull City away for sheer adrenaline rush. As far as 'kicking off 'is concerned, been through all of it. Nothing will match the late 60's early 70's for me. Don't know how we got here in one piece but loads of vivid memories: Oldham biker with a Samurai Sword; stabbings home v. Leicester; mayhem home v. Hull; 2 hour pre match brawl at Halifax; shotgun wielding WBA fans at Walsall v BWFC - I could go on for hours about this shiyte. Football too sanitised these days. needs to be returned to the working man.

What had happened is we were all skins, mods, suedes, smoothies etc. them days (Blackburn were rockers and Burnley were Teds - hated both of them since) and this tw@t blasted up the road in his diabolical leather shiyte on a rattly old oil burner shouting anti Bolton abuse etc. Predictably he got pelted with any missile available. Came back a couple of minutes later and ploughed through us waving this samurai sword thing round 'is 'ed. Got knocked off his bike by some fcuker and got kicked to fcuk but admired his front. Put the wind up a few I can tell you.

Would definitely have been 70's - probably around the year you were born

Memorable day that one. A West Indian mate of mine from Breightmet got arrested for snotting an OB at the train station. All I rememebr was a push from the back of the platform into the line of OB at the edge and one copper saying to my mate something like 'stop pushing yer black so and so'. Next thing I saw OB helmets flying through the air! He got arrested but got off when witness after witness stood up and repeated what the OB had called him!

I was there that day (cambridge) and there was but me shouting for Gardner to come on and show us what clear vision and first time passing was all about. So all you boo boys who can now fcuk right off chat and if there any more negative posts about Bolton on this site can now go and support MAN United. :-s

Started watching in 1974 and the last game I went to was when we went down in 98***

*** I have been to the odd game since but I haven't paid :D

Either exec box/tickets or mates season ticket.

I honestly don't miss it.

Hardest game to miss is the first game.

The negatives are like the post started 'The Dark Days' and remenicing of what we went through brings home how lucky we are now. The fans who supported us then are reaping the rewards now, god bless them all :D

Guilty! Gave up the family ticket after 2 years in the Premier and 30 odd years going with a few years off between 79 - 83.

Never actually felt giving up cause of performances etc, more to do with the change of a day with the lads to the sanitised expensive game of today. Not the release from the working day stress that it once was. Something that used to be the major thing in my life became a bind, slowly but surely. The Reebok experience is simply not as attractive for many reasons.

Still regardless of were i am (deepest china, usa etc or sainsbury's on sat afternoon) I know exactly when bwfc are playing and will find a way to get the result or score whatever. i was born in brownlow fold and will defend the town and club no matter who is taking the piss or where ever i am.

I would turn up for the semis etc but i surprised myself by not following the whites on one away trip on our inaugeral trip into europe. perhaps i have truly have retired. my two sojourns this year have seen us beat and draw to bloody wigin!

so the answer to the original question is yes and no. does this make me a pussy or someone who don't derserve a ticket for a cup final?

since 95 i've seen bolton play 20 or 30 times. an home game for me now is an away game, cost to much :-s

bit like crew86 said... i just dont honestly get the buzz anymore.

that dont make me less a wanderer than the next bloke . i did not miss many matches home and away from the very early 80's to 95 when i emigrated down here .

Going to the match these days is shite, sat in a lifeless stadium , over the top stewards

there was nothing better in the'' Dark days'' than meeting your mates in town early doors wether it be space city or hanging about the train station waiting for the sweet green tavern to open. and having a ragging good laugh .

these days you have to show you're ragging match ticket to get in the hpi

What a ragging cheek !

I've been a wanderer since i was 7 and i'll be a wanderer for a long time yet! though i dont go much these days .
