Traf Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 folk using ambulances as fooking taxis doesn't help answer me that one mrs and daughter have both had need to use bolton in the last 10 years, and I can't fault thcare they got yes, they had to move wards once or twice (evenings and weekends), but that doesn't matter to me - i'll live with that theres a finite amount of money, and an infinite number of things to spend it on ie, this cancer drug - anybody would want it for any relative they have who could benefit from it, but there is only so much cash in the pot Being reasonable on an emotive issue isn't what this thread's about!
jayjayoghani Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 My nan is currently in Bolton Royal and has been for 17 weeks. The care she as received has been disgusting, nothing to do with standard of nursing she has been given, but due to the staff shortage, and 'them' in higher positions who sit round friggin tables dictating on what resources should be spent where, without any regard for the actual patient. She has been on a total of 7 wards during her duration, due to ward closures. She has fallen and broken her forearm whilst in and has now got a serious chest infection which has occured since her last ward move. It isn't just my nan who is suffering from the government cutbacks in the NHS and it's fcking pitiful when the likes of my nan and her generation have fought for the country to end up being totally disregarded and left to die with no dignity in the shithole organisation of the NHS. My Nan has been in the same bed at Bolton General Ward G4 for the last 2 weeks. Apart from a couple of exceptions the staff are fantastic. Some machine to aid her recuperation had to be brought in from a town centre health centre. Why the town's main hospital didn't have one? F??ck knows - and now it's broken down. The cost of healthcare is rising and despite increased Govt. spending, ours still lags behind other major European countries.
Ani Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 on the student thing, i had 4 years in bradford. did fcuk all work, went drinking most nights and laid in bed till whenever i could be arsed getting up. it was a total doss and i had a brilliant time. i got a minimum grant (??600) i worked behind a bar and got pissed for free. students whinging about the life do not realise how good the life is. the NHS is something this country should be proud of, did anyone see that thing the other week that they are going to start issuing people invoices when they leave hospital saying how much the treatment cost but stamped 'paid for by your taxes'
bwfc_sue Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Student life is only good (IMO) if your young, with no responsibilities.
pike_mill_white Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Student life is only good (IMO) if your young, with no responsibilities. Your spot on Sue. When I was at Uni I used to think I want to be a student for the rest of my life - twas superb. Pissed most nights, play footie for the Uni on Wednesdays, blah blah. Now, you couldn't drag me back. Reality is living in a dump with 5 other lads, no Sky (!!), skint, ??15 for food a week. Nah, give it a miss.

Obviously I mean go back in time, I wouldn't do it as the old fecker I am now.

Might even tell Paul G. not to dive into a tackle.
mickbrown Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Don't get me going on Belgium in the Westleigh. I'm filling up.
Maggie Tate Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Used to sup in there from time to time myself but it was dear. Student life is only good (IMO) if your young, with no responsibilities. I'd modify that a bit and say that precisely because you have some responsibilities the life is good. I went when I was 18, both young and daft and just growing up a bit too, ready to fend for yourself for the first time, so it's the perfect time. There's a right and a wrong way to go about it and blasting your money away every night and doing p??ss all work won't get you very far. If I'm honest I could have got by the first two years of my BA degree without a massive amount of work, but the third year was quite testing and then the Masters was a totally different kettle of fish altogether. Overall I think there are too mnay tin pot universities and too many tin pot courses and the governmant's plans to have 50% of 18 year olds going to university is a complete disaster.
Smiffs Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 f??ck uni - get a trade and you'll never be out of work.
