This morning I gave you the top 10 Bolton Wanderers legends, so it???s only right that I state the top 10 Bolton Wanderers villains. Well, er, I could only think of 8 so here goes:

 

Jay Jay Okocha

 

Has spent the last 4 years being paid a king???s ransom to produce nothing. A few keepie-ups and a big grin do not make you a good footballer. Famously tried to sell himself to European clubs in a BBC interview, not surprisingly there were no takers. Has lived on his one good game (v West Ham in 2003) for a number of years. He should be made to pay back his wages.  His performances to help keep us more than repaid his wages. Fabian is a hero for 2 goals at wembley, your arguements are flawed and inconsistent.

 

El Hadji Diouf

 

Currently refusing to play for the club that rescued him from his Liverpool hell and made him their highest earning player. This guy gets a reported ??40k per week but cannot be bothered to run around for 90 minutes every Saturday. Players like this are an insult to the great warriors of the past (McGinlay, Pollock, Patterson etc) who didn???t have an ounce of Diouf???s skill but gave their heart and soul to BWFC for a fraction of his pay - we knew what he was like when we signed, potential to be a villan but also a hero in the making

 

Michael Ricketts

 

Decided he wanted to play for a bigger club to accommodate his backside. Like the majority of star players who think they are bigger than BWFC he was never seen again. Be warned, the guy who paid ??3.5million for Michael Ricketts is now in charge of England!!

The original foreign mercenary. No one can deny Youri was a decent enough player, but at 87 years old he still thought he should be offered a pay-rise by BWFC, despite playing less and less games. Famously spat his dummy out when BWFC called his bluff and sulked off to Blackburn Rovers for a few weeks before they realised their mistake and cancelled his contract. Last seen playing American Football in, er, America.

Picture the scene. It???s 1991 and BWFC are rubbish. But somehow we manage to reach the 4th round of the FA Cup (in the days when the FA Cup mattered). Amazingly we draw 2-2 at home to Premiership Southampton who are two divisions above us and have Matt Le Tissier and Alan Shearer in their side. Even more amazingly we score what looks like a winner deep into injury time of the replay at The Dell. We celebrate like never before. BWFC don???t beat Premiership sides, the cup upsets only happen to other clubs. But there we were, about to be plastered across every newspaper in the country and have our 15 minutes of fame when up stepped goalkeeper David Felgate. With the referee bringing his whistle to his lips to signal the end of the game, frustration got the better of Southampton???s Barry Horne who hit a 45 yard punt towards the Bolton goal. It was on target but had all the pace of Mario Jardel carrying an elephant on his back. Surely it was just going to fall into the arms of David Felgate and we would be in the 5th round. But no. Felgate dithered, his life flashed before him, and before we knew it the ball was nestling in the back of the net and Southampton fans were on the pitch. Southampton went on to get a winner in extra-time. It still hurts to talk about it today.

Our younger viewers may not realise that Tranmere Rovers used to be our great rivals. In 1991 it came to a head when the teams met at Wembley in the Play-Off Final. With the scores locked at 0-0 and only minutes remaining the ball fell to midfielder Paul Comstive about 6 yards out with an open goal in front of him. We started to celebrate, at last we???d made it back to the second tier of English football. We started to plan our trips to Chelsea, Oxford and Sunderland. But then something amazing happened. Comstive missed. Missed by mile. Laughter came from the Tranmere end of the ground. How could he have missed? He missed, we lost 1-0 in extra-time and had to travel home with smug scouse faces everywhere.
