June 14, 200620 yr I know it's still early days, but we've seen all the big boys now,so which team/player has impressed you? In my opinion - Spain looked lively ( albeit against a poor Ukraine outfit) Torres looked good. Italy looked organised, and that Toni looked the part. But Argentina with Riquelme pulling the strings have impressed me the most so far.
June 14, 200620 yr Czech Republic looked very strong! The ukraine red card & penalty was very harsh and killed off any chance of a fight back! but Spain have looked very good! i think after the 2nd round of games we'll be able to spot the better teams rather than those that had a poor game (France, Brazil & England)!
June 14, 200620 yr The question is will they fully function with the inept swedish red ginger in charge. The man is a joke. With our players we should be ripping up trees. FFS we didn't even have a system sorted before the WC. The red ginger had years to prepare for this. That said, me thinks we will do alright and get to the semi-finals at least. IF we play to our potential then we can rule the world.
June 14, 200620 yr Nowt for a fully functioning England team to be worried about so far We can't be fully functional with a centre forward that hasn't played first team football since before christmas. What is the opposite of sharp? Owen is shite. On what we have seen so far Argentia are 3 or 4 goals better than England.

Dont worry Rooney is fit and ready to go http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/w...and/5078366.stm
June 14, 200620 yr For England to do well, we need our midfield and Rooney to play well and either Owen/Crouch to score goals. Think our back 5 is as good as any in the tournament. However, if they come under incessant pressure like against Paraguay the defence will crack eventually against better teams. Why can't England move the ball/team further up the pitch when we're under pressure? Some people have complimented our midfield but we must take control of possession more when we need to. It's the reason Rooney becomes so important. Also, we need the weather to be kind. May sound like an excuse but playing a game against Brazil in 30-35??C heat, they will be fitter and stronger. Looking at the schedule, our 2nd round and Quarter-Final games will definitely be played at 4pm too (5pm Germany) which doesn't help. Can't help thinking there's too many variables which will stop England.

If you watched any of our back 4 try and pass the ball v paraguay you can not think they are as good as others in the tournament. to be good stoppers or defenders is good enough in the premiership at a higher level you need to better passers of the ball than any of them 4. unfortunatly they think they are better players than they are.
June 14, 200620 yr Canavarro & Nesta - not the tallest, not big fat hulks, but quality centre backs. I tipped Czechs before the tournament and will stick with them.
June 14, 200620 yr The Argies were OK but people have gone overboard in their praise for them. Similarly to how so many have gone too far with their criticism of England. The fact is, no team has really stood out yet and it looks set to be a close tournament, which is what everyone wants. As for us, Im glad we got a shite performance in straight away and came out with 3 points. Its a kick up the arse, we've had chance to find our feet a bit and we've come out unscathed. We might get Ecuador in the next round yet for fu??ks sake! :-$
June 14, 200620 yr The Argies were far from ragging great. The last 20 mins they were on the back foot. Their defence didn't look great and they got v shaky towards the end of the game. Just as England would. They aren't that good.

Just as England would. They aren't that good. I strongly disagree. Argentina are easily the best side we have seen so far. They were playing against one of the best teams in the tournament as well.
June 14, 200620 yr I know it's still early days, but we've seen all the big boys now,so which team/player has impressed you? There has been some great player performances. That Rosicky who is going to Arsenal, Torres, Saviola, Riquelme, Yaya Toure are a few that I can remember and that Mexican centre half that plays for Barca. Argentina, Spain, Ivory Coast, Italy, Czechs and Croatia were great to watch very entertaining.
June 14, 200620 yr Spains first two goals were lucky deflections, there third was a pen that was laughable! also the Ukraine were down to 10 men. Spain played well today, but under different curcumstances, it could hve been 1 nil.

OK it went in off his shoulder but he was in the right place at the right time to get his shoulder to it! They played Ukraine off the park!
June 14, 200620 yr czechs and wops are best i've seen so far england and brazil the most dissapointing rosicky looks the dogs or rositchy as our commentators seem to prefer essien didn't look half bad either
June 14, 200620 yr I know it's still early days, but we've seen all the big boys now,so which team/player has impressed you? Ghana's midfielder Appiah, Ivory Coast midfielder Toure, Centre half Cannavaro and striker Toni from Italy
