Took my dad to A+E at 4am on Monday night,he finally got in a ward at 11am. He got put in a room on his own with an en suite,very nice i thought - till i went in to discover the toilet full to the brim with someone elses sh*te. There was an old bloke in the corridor sat on a comode- not because he wanted to use it ,they just didn't have a bed for him. "The Doctor will see your father at 3pm" said the staff nurse,he turned up at 7.30pm.

It's been 3 years since i last spent any time in Hospital,and i was shocked at what a SHAMBLES the place has become. The nurses do their best,but they are understaffed and overworked, but the way the place is run is just chaotic.

Last year when me lung collapsed i was straight into a ward and a bed and seen by a doctor no problem.

 

Mondays in A&E are notoriously bad as they're still clearing all the drunken accidents from the weekend.

 

if you're going to have an accident have one on a tuesday or a wednesday its quieter!

Still, the NHS is on it's knees but we're about to spend 26 billion on replacing Trident.

 

Enough to pay every nurse in Britain an extra ??1000 a year for the next 26 years.

But NHS spending has trebled since 1997. And it's still below the EU average.

 

Quite what we're getting for that increase I don't know.

 

Doesn't help though when we're one of the most unhealthy nations in Europe.

I have dealings with NHS from a business perspective and certain depts and certain trusts waste money on sh??te non-stop.

Did my knee in a week last Friday night. Decided against going to Townleys on the night for the same probems your father encountered. Couldn't go on Saturday as I was waiting for the police. So I went

on the Sunday. Waiting time was 1 hour and I waited exactly that, to the minute in fact. Can't say

thats ever happened before but I was impressed with the service.

Had a couple of collapsed lungs in my time....they bloody hurt don't they!!

 

I was seen fine at Bolton General when I had my ops - no complaints!!

Wigans aint the best i had cheat pains at 3am on the night shift last year

they took me to hospital and didnt get seen till 8am then the doctor saw

me at 11am. The problem was id been at Global Gathering the weekend

before (enough said)

Burnden Bogs.. I hope things are going ok for your dad now.. it sounds like a terrible experience for your dad, you and your family. I can only tell you about my wife who is a head of department in the NHS and regularly works from 6.30am to 7pm while only getting paid from 9 to 5.

 

She has often come home in tears about situations she has had to deal with. She works her tits off and gets no thanks. I know how much she cares and I'm sure there are loads like her all over the NHS. Not all the NHS are incompetent, though there are stories that I can't tell that may make it seem that way.

Jazza, i know there are people who work very hard and who care in the NHS,if it wasn't for some of those people my father would have died 15 years ago,and they've saved his life on three occasions since then.

When i started this thread i was angry and upset,but it wasn't my intention to "have a go" at the many fine individuals who work there, it was written more in despair at the system.There are many reasons why the NHS seems to be on it's knees,i presume some of them are -

 

Understaffing

Government NHS funding cutbacks

Not paying British nurses their true value

Influx of foreign workers

System abuse (by people who shouldn't really be entitled)

 

One word sums up the NHS for me - OVERSTRETCHED.

The problem is they do too much paperwork instead of being on the wards looking after the patients.

Don't worry, I'm not possessive - much. Had that avatar for ages then unhappy said it would have to go as he thought it was using too much bandwidth. So, as one who always does things for the general good of the world (yawn, zzzz... - Ed.) I relinquished it.

I got pneumonia when I was 18, they took me to the A+E, took an x-ray of my lung with a cloud over it & then left me lay on a makeshift bed 'til the morning.

 

The other time I went was when some sh??thouse put a stool over my head on Halliwell Rd, after he bottled my invitation for a fight outside. The nurses were the complete w??nkers while I was there - it's no wonder they get threatened every weekend with attitudes like that.

Got knocked off my motorbike after the Wigan game in February.

Taken to Warrington General.

16 x-rays then taken to ward.

Spent Saturday, Sunday nights on ward.

Taken for operation on Monday afternoon.

Spent 6 1/2 hours on operating table having;

Left Knee relocated,

Fibula rebuilt and bolted,

ALL ligaments in knee reattached.

Transferred to private room where I spent the next 2 weeks looking at the walls.

 

I am still having physio, using a crutch, wearing braces on my leg and foot, and walking with a limp.

 

As for the NHS, I have only good words for the way I have been treated, although I don't recommend this course of action to find out how good it can be.
