End Of A Era

Come on, Frankie Worthy was a million miles away from being the player Youri was. Only Okocka and Hierro can really be put in the same league.

All of those four in the same team at their peak would have been something to behold. If Frankie Worthy was a million miles away from Youri, you must mean in style terms. Frankie was brilliant but, I agree, in a different way. More of a swashbuckling goalscorer than a massively gifted creator.

swashbuckling

There is a word that isn't used anywhere often enough in "everyday speak".

Well Done Bolty =D>

Beat me to it, I'm gonna try and slip that into a conversation when I 'attempt' to speak to any birds in Bolton/manc tonight. They'll pro think I'm a complete nob, but f??ck em :drinks:

Nar, you could do your Marcel Marceau impression and they'd still think that! :p

i think worthington was close to being a world class player, dont forget he won the golden boot playing for bolton, if he would have signed for liverpool when he failed his fitness test, i really think he would now be a liverpool legend and would have had 50 plus england caps.

legend!!!

ok carlos i would concede that in terms of acomplishments he was, however the "similar traits" I refer to would be the effortless control and silky movement with the ball.

BTW Frank played in an age when ruthless fouling was accepted and refs only showed cards when skin was broken, pitches were quagmires and balls were made of proper leather. who knows how far he would have got in todays protected era?

What I meant was Frank couldn't pass a ball 50 yards to feet, like Youri, Hierro and Okocha. Different kind of player, Youri was pretty much the complete player.

Jesus, we only got the tail end of the man. Imagine what he was like in his pomp playing for Inter. Frightening!

i think your either your memory has gone or you were to young too appreciate it but worthington used to stroke the ball the width of the pitch to feet 99 times out of 100, the man had everything except pure pace, he is in the top 3 players i have seen playing for bolton without a doubt.

Youri - best Bolton player ever?

Never saw Worthy or Lofty, but YD was immense.

I'd put him up there with Andy Walker and John McGinlay.

take it from me neither were fit to lace worthys boots.

biffs opinion would be interesting

i suspect he'll have freddie hill in his top 3

for me, in no order, and restricted to performances for us in the top league

Frank - a goal every two games in a struggling team, that goal, and his tricks in the pre match warm up

Okocha - world class

Hierro - tragic that he graced us for such a short time. Probably only had a dozen or so good games, but what an exhibition they were

Aye - that lad was a joy to watch.

Youri was the best player I've ever seen in a Bolton shirt, end of story.

for what he cost, i have marshall right up there with sams best signings

without doubt- i couldnt believe we signed him at the time, but thats sam showing his nounce- was it Norwich at home when he came marauding off the bench and bagged two on something like his 43rd birthday??? a sign of things to come- he wasnt pretty, but effective...

Youri-legend!A true roll model for any up and coming professional footballers!Enjoy your retierment :good:

It is very difficult if not impossible to compare players from different positions. Skillwise, Freddie Hill, Youri Djorkaeff and Jay Jay Okocha are probably the best three I have seen in a Bolton shirt. Then there is Nat and John Byrom who may not have been the most skilful of players but could score goals. My all time favourite Bolton player is Tommy Banks who personnified Bolton resilliance. Hierro was a technically great player but I am reluctant to include him in any list of all time Bolton greats because he played so few games for Bolton.

Also Hopkinson and Jaaskelainan were or are just as good an asset to Bolton as the players mentioned above.

Cheers for the compliments lads but, being honest, I must have been influenced by the latest offering from Anabolic - ""The Pirates of Pennys Ass"
