Gartside Speaks

Phil Gartside has told Bolton fans to turn up in force if they want to keep the players happy.

Even though Bolton are pushing for a UEFA Champions League spot, crowds have been 2,000 down on last season and 5,000 below The Reebok Stadium's 28,000 capacity.

And Gartside is worried Bolton's failure to sell out their ground will have a negative affect on the players.

The chairman is particularly concerned about Nicolas Anelka, who has experience of playing in front of packed houses at Arsenal, Real Madrid and Liverpool.

"If we want to keep players like Nicolas Anelka happy, then we've got to give them the support they deserve," said Gartside.

"Fans have to realise they can help the players, especially the likes of Nicolas who are used to playing in major stadiums in front of big crowds.

"We need to improve the atmosphere here."

Gartside accepts that ticket prices are driving the supporters away and plans to use money from a new television deal to keep costs down, but he insists the fans must also play their part.

"We can't keep discounting tickets," he explained.

"Some of the TV money will go towards keeping the cost of football down, but we need the fans to get behind us now."

Be interesting to see if they do cut prices this summer. I suspect we are heading for a "prices remain on hold, giving something back to the fans statement".

I think a ??100 reduction for adults wouldn't go amiss. Kids prices aren't too bad. The club would only lose about 1.5million. Come on Gartside. Sort it out.

just sent this to gartsides bw e-mail address

mr gartside,

although i agree with your call for more fans at the reebok,i feel a lot of the problems lie at the clubs feet.

the ticket office is second to none in its ineptitude, faults include slow service, admin charges at ??1.50 are a joke.

in a recent example i attended a game with 5 members of my family, who at the time five of which had season tickets.

i had mistakenly brought an out of date season ticket, and although i told them the present one was at home on the fireplace, they still insisted on me paying to get in.

this was at three fifteen, and they knew the ticket had not been activated that game.

secondly the stewarding leaves a lot to be desired, you put a band next to supporters to gee them up,and when they get involved the orange coated warriors go in heavy handed.

why not try a small section of unreserved seating, then those who wish to be more lively would not inconvenience the sit down brigade.

football support is dying because, the more passionate supporters were and still are being alienated by the new breed of "supporter".

and by the time clubs realise this it may well be too late to get them back.

I bet Fat Phil was laughing his manboobs off at this. If you want to be in with a chance of being taken seriously you really must improve your English skills.

Fat Phil and co think Bolton fans are uneducated plebs, and unfortunately people like you prove them right everytime.

Gartside has put his hand in his pocket to pay the megabucks transfer fee and wages.

Wow ! It must be costing Mr. Gartside & his family ??20m-??30m a year out of his personal account. Didn't know he was so rich. What do BWFC need Sky money or high ticket prices for at all ?

As for moaning, fans are the lifeblood of any football club,

Correct ! And just because the Whites fans love a good moan does NOT mean that they haven't got good reasons for moaning.

Anyway the England 'fans' were/are moaning after Wednesday night. The WHU fans are currently in moan mode. Fans at several Prem clubs are 'moaning' by giving matches a miss. It's part of the wider football scene .... always was, always will be.

Slowly but surely the old lezzer Nat is coming back. It won't be long before we're pissing our sides at your essays again.

All fans moan. Jules has said we moan too much, but really he should know that Man City are the biggest set of moaning whoppers in the universe :D

go suck an egg...........you pleb

Bolton fans don't deserve class players like Anelka playing in a white shirt...moaning bastards. If we were only allowed to have the quality of players in the team to match the quality of fans, we wouldn't be in the premier league that's for sure. Did you feel the atmosphere and passion of the Marseille/Besiktas/Plovdiv fans in their own stadiums?and they were only playing a small no-mark club from England that they had never heard of. What would they be like at a local derby.

Gartside has put his hand in his pocket to pay the megabucks transfer fee and wages.

Maybe the fans of Anelka's next club will appreciate him more. I wouldn't be surprised if he f*cked off at the end of the season. We don't deserve a chairman like Gartside either, he is a Bolton Wanderers fan as well.

Dont talk out of your arse man,if their supporters had to put up with the tossers who pass for stewards at the Reebok (and in particular the idiots who direct them to behave as they do) the fans of the clubs you mention would be the same as us.And in any case football is now a middle class sport in this country due to pricing, stewarding, etc no one was sat down in Marseille and lets face it how can you generate an atmosphere when you are?

The only person sat down at Besiktas was Smiley, and he was asleep.

I never renewed my season ticket this season, and I have not once had a letter from the club asking why they had lost my loyal support.

To be honest, I detest going to the reebok.

Its a pain in the arse to get to, I'd prefer to be able to walk to my local ground not get a train. there are only one or two decent watering holes nearby and it is hard as hell to get served. The so called season ticket card which is supposed to speed up access actually slows it down. I don't like queueing for ages to get a kak pint/pie at a ridiculous price and to be served by some johnny foreigner who can't understand/speak our language. I don't like the tap on the shoulder for standing up or swearing by the person behind me or the stewards. I don't like seeing underage girls make a pratt of themselves dressed in next to nothing with pompoms. I don't like fireworks. I don't like that tit who runs with the flag when we score. I don 't like that cheesy tune "I feel good". I don't like the negative tactics we employ whilst playing at home. I think lofty the lion is a tit. I don't like people asking me what player number 5 is etc. I don't like the drums. I don't like being pushed around by some copper who hardly shaves. I don't like queueing for the train afterwards then to be told it it is an hour late. I don't like not winning.

I could be persuaded to return if they reduced prices, allocated a standing/sit anywhere area. Sorted out the kiosk. Got vending machines. Gartside resigns

I like to get together with my mates, have a few beers watch a decent game of footy, let some steam off, have a good rant, banter the opposition, have a bit of a singalong and mooch back into town without all the corporate b??llshit that is associated with todays game

Can anyone spot the deliberate mistake? ::::::::lol::::::::

Well I were pal until i posted something about charlton on the West Ham thred.

I don't like being pushed around by some copper who hardly shaves.

So you prefer being manhandled by hairy coppers do you eh eh?

In the words of a wise person...there's things you think, and things you say.....

Quite right

When i was out with the missus in manchester today i saw a cracking piece and i thought 'id love to lick her minge' but there was no way i was going to say it.

Its all been mentioned a million times before... its a piss poor atmosphere caused by over zealous stewards, the likelihood that you could get banned for a few years by just being a bit 'overexcited', remain in your seat, dont swear, dont fart etc etc....

Although ive got totally bored with football anyway....its just money money money....theres a game on the box every day...im sick of it.
