Summer Bargains

To beef up our squad for next season we could do with proven prem players that won't break the bank. The attraction of regular football and uefa cup will help.

Zenden - would fit well into a midfield 3, plenty of pace and an eye for goal.

Kewel - competition to front 3, at full fitness and with confidence a quality player.

Danny Murphy - controversial, but proved his worth at charlton. needs to be playing regularly

Routledge - Young and pacey, limited chances at spurs, could get him for a good price

Ole Solsjaer - Fallen down the pecking order at United, cant be happy never staring a game. Will def score goals.

Luke Young - If Charlton go down, a sound premiership full back with international hopes

I would go for (not necessarily all prem players):

Kewell - Free transfer - performance related contract - a gamble but world class if he finds form.

Samuel - Good squad player - can play either full back - cheap and coming to his peak.

Zigic - Think what damage a 6ft 8inch centre forward who can head a ball can do with our style of play.

Diogo - Best right back I have seen this season. Real Madrid player on loan at Zaragoza. Get him now before he gets in Madrid's team.

Song - Arsenal player on loan at Charlton. Strong quick young defensive midfielder. Cover and eventually a successor for Speed/Campo

And a creative midfield player. I can't think who we can buy here. We need to unearth the next Fabregas!!

Add to that Cid and Dzemali, not to mention Michalik and possibly Harsnayi and that would represent a major improvement to our current squad.

Of all those , there's only Murphy i'd entertain and he's only just coming back from a long-term injury.

Zenden and Kewell in particular are stealing a living.

If we're talking about full backs that may have their clubs' Prem status under threat, I wouldn't have Luke Young on my mind. Piss poor in my view.

Used to like the look of that Rosenior at Fulham, but he was piss poor at our place this season. Moritz Volz has always impressed me, regardless of what position he plays. Good utility player to have IMO.

Kewell would be too much a risk, especially considering his wages as well.

Zendens' in his thirties, and only really had one good Prem season, back at Boro.

Routledge is garbage in my view. Hasn't progressed, no final product etc.

Solskjaer won't play for another English club.

A part of me wouldn't mind Murphy, I've said it before.

Which part? Please tell me it's not your genitals.

I wouldn't want that tosser Solskjaer  . I would rather stick with Stelios than buy him. Can you imagine playing the scum with him in our team and listening to their songs... f*ck that.

Zoltan Gera is a midfielder that I have always rated as a cheap bargain buy. If we get into Champions league we should be aiming for the quality of Malbranque or Scott Parker

ZENDEN = CRAP

KEWELL = ANOTHER FORTUNE

DANNY MURPHY = NO BETTER THAN WOT WE HAVE GOT

ROUTLEDGE = ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH

OLE GUNNER = TO SLOW AND TOO OLD

LUKE YOUNG = IS HE BETTER THAN HUNT ????

Are you having a laugh? Showing how much you know about football there son?

Didn't Danny Murphy snub us a season or two back? - so fook him. It also seems a while ago since he was playing decent football on a regular basis, 3 or 4 seasons ago maybe?.

Zenden - would fit well into a midfield 3, plenty of pace and an eye for goal.

One thing Zenden hasn't got anymore is pace, he is worse than useless these days, and will be farmed off to end his career at PSV come the end of the season

Song - Arsenal player on loan at Charlton. Strong quick young defensive midfielder. Cover and eventually a successor for Speed/Campo

Already got that covered with the pre-contract signing of FC Zurich captain Blerim Dzemaili.

We are not in the need for central defenders with the signings of Lubomir Michalik, Cesar Martin and Gerald Cid (can any of these play fullback?).

That leaves two new full backs, a midfield player who can thread a pass through a packed defence and some forward cover.

For once, BSA can concentrate his efforts on 3 or 4 quality signings rather than going for quantity. Thus there is not a need to take a gamble on the likes of Kewell, Zenden etc...

...talking of Liverpool players though what about - Bellamy?

That was you having a bit of joke there wasn't it?

Unsettled, trouble maker needing a loving manager, not getting a regular game, based in the NW, current club have new owners looking to spend big this summer

Funny things have happened.

the problem were gonna get now is that to improve the squads depth with better quality, the players we sign are gonna wanna be 1st choice.

at a club like ourselves keeping 20 real top quality players is going to be VERY difficult.

bellamy for example will want to play every week, but i wouldnt have him infront of diouf, anelka or davies.

I'd agree, most of those players suggested are squad players in the big teams, if we're gonna compete with them we need better players. They might be bargains, but i think Kewell, Murphy and Zenden would make little impact. However, one player who got dumped from a top club that I think could make an impact would be Eidur. Talk on Sky today was he might be going to Man U, and chances are he wouldn't be first choice there, so why wouldn't he return to a club where he knows he'll get first team football and Europe, maybe he'd convince Saviola to come along too (he is available for nothing now anyway).

i know enough SON to have my views on the matter knob

Fair enough son but you're still wrong. Luke Young no better than Nicky Hunt?

i know the fact Charlton aint had a great season is not his fault but still think Hunt if not obrien when he comes back will easily cover that area, its left back were the issue is

I still disagree with you.

Both fullback postions need addressing, but the RB is a more pressing issue IMO. We should have a a proper right back at the club, Nicky Hunt is a good squad player for sure but we need better than him if we want to sustain our success. JO'B was a midfielder playing out of position. A left back is also required, but think back to last season and Ricky was our player of the year. Granted he isn't having a great time at present.

Anyway if Luke Young became available and for decent money, i'd have him here in an instant. As i would Darren Bent, but there is more chance of you having an IQ of 140 than that happening! :drinks:

yawn !! SON
