Stelios in Blades' sights

SHEFFIELD United manager Bryan Robson has today revealed that the Blades are trying to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos.

Greek international Stelios, 32, has spent the last four seasons with the Premiership club but has yet to start a game for new manager Sammy Lee.

Robson hopes to sign the former Olympiakos player on loan for the rest of the season although he is currently recovering from a hernia problem.

The Blades signed midfielder Lee Hendrie in the summer from Aston Villa but the former England international broke down with a knee injury after the opening game of the season and is sidelined for the next two months.

TBH Stelios has seen his best... He deserves games and if Sheff Utd can give them him then im happy with it.

hasn't he just had an op over the summer hense why he hasn't featured at all?

I'll take a day off work tomorrow, unpaid, and drive Stelios to Sheffield myself.

No transfer fee needed - just get the ?30K a week off the books.

hes reet tha knows

then we can bring in gerry gow

if its a loan deal, i doubt sheff utd would pay the more than 10k of that, so we'd still be paying rest.

Sheff Utd want Stelios on a permanent basis

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson admitted he is keen to sign Bolton's Greek international winger Stelios Giannakopoulos on a permanent basis.

The two clubs have agreed a loan deal for Stelios, 33, but Robson wants him to commit long-term.

Robson said: "We're taking talks further forward and I'm trying to convince him this is the right club for him to progress his career.

"We need to convince him Sheffield United will be the right move for him."

606: DEBATE

How can you see him fitting into the blades midfield?

Stelios joined Bolton from Greek side Olympiakos in May 2003 and has played an integral part as the Trotters have regularly challenged for European football.

He underwent hernia surgery in Athens during the summer and was expected to miss the start of the season.

As already said on this thread, we'll almost certainly be heavily subsidising the deal.
