I would change midfield personally, as playing the three of Nolan, McGann and Speed gives us the slowest midfield in the prem. Agreed, Nolan needs a kick up the backside, however the guy is not, and will never be any good out wide. But in defending him, I also have to say he looks overweight, his passing is slow and often innaccurate....he needs to have a critque of himself, and quickly........Best player in midfield this season is Alonso, he is dynamic, tracks back, willing to have a shot on goal, and our best passer.

Ex...fkng ....zactly ! Add to that throwing defenders upfield for corners & free-kicks, and you can see why the breakaway goals are conceded.

Much as I love the new attacking style, it won't work till LSL gets his defensive tactics sorted. We ain't going to outscore enough teams on current form.

We all know how good Nolan can be. Like someone mentioned you don't become a bad player overnight. He is obviously lacking confidence. To me though he doesn't look fit. He looks to be panting and stuggling for breath. A bit like any of us would be after 10 minutes on the pitch :D . He needs to work on his stamina and less on the weights in my opinion. He seems to have bulked up an awful lot in the last year or so.

has been piss poor for months now but still nicky hunt gets most of the stick cant see any improvement if he is in the team

i usually back him up as i have someone near me who just blames everything on nolan even if say jussi kicks it out of play off a goal kick he'll say oh come on nolan ur s*it get off the f*cking field.

however against everton he had a poor performance but he does show some good things in his performances like his off the ball work and he usually goes in hard and pulls off some good challenges, he will come good but he does need to do it quick, it was also unfortunate that he was then the best defender left on field who wasn't even in defence and so that just meant that he had to be the man who put the ball up the field, he'll do well.

this is the first time though that i have said that it does appear that over the summer he had put on a pound or two.

Come on nolan stick it out

Nolan for england especially now that they have so many injuries at the moment

Are you on drugs? The only way he's getting into our team is on former glories, on current form the Irish wouldn't want him never mind England.

yeh i'll give you that, but like i say if he sorts out his performances he has an alright chance what with teh recent injuries fripping through the england camp

For me, Nolan looks far from happy being played on the right of midfield and I don't think Sammy has the confidence to bring the "club captain" off the field.

He was brought off at Pompey and went crying to the press about his position.

Now, yesterday, I got the impression he doesn't want to play on the wing, I'd even go as far to say he looked disinterested. I don't think he covered that much ground, he didn't chase anything and was regularly caught out of position with most of Everton's attacks being based down that side.

A move into the middle would be better for him but on current form there's no reason to keep either Speed or Alonso out of the team (despite Alonso being at fault for the winner). With Braaten and Wilhelmsson on the flanks our midfield would have pace and power, but there's only one man that can make it happen, and the sooner the better!

Not if they watched him yesterday he doesn't.

was looking through that yearbook thingie they give to ST holders yesterday, quite interesting comparing Nolan to the average Prem Footballer:

Height 6'1" (average 6'0")

Weight 14st (average 12st - Davies about 13st and a pastie)

get the fat fooker to lose weight, then watch him potter round in a slightly better manner.

agree,14st is surely too heavy for a top footballer at 6'1"

That miss on Saturday was shocking, just shocking

Totally agree, but as a positive he looked mortified at missing it. Hopefully, he will realise that his miss cost us 3 points and that his place is at risk. More importantly he'll know that the fans are about to turn on him if he keeps missing like that! What was the miss last season where it was harder to miss than score and he fell over his own feet?

will you all get real, nolan is one of, us..so is hunt..

if you dont like it stay away.............................

the west stand at the bok is the worst..

one mistake by any player and the groans are deafening...

so you can all feck off

Ive never heard the West stand make any noise Colin!!! =D>

For those in the anti-Nolan camp - don't worry relief is just around the corner...

...the curse of the BWFC 2007 calendar will surely strike down Mr September very soon!!

Well I suppose if they're slagging Nobby they're leaving Nicky Hunt alone. I can understand why folk are criticising Nolan but I've seen a few sparks of the old Nobby the last two weeks. Shame he fluffed the chance as that would have probably been a massive confidence boost.

In amongst all the gloom (and, to be fair, a lot of praise for the attractive football we are playing), please remember we are 2 points off 10th place. Gutted yesterday as we clearly didn't deserve to lose but I am anything but downhearted. Blind Freddie can see we are streets ahead of at least half a dozen teams in the EPL.

The following seems obvious to me - 1. McCann is a vital part of our midfield. The steel we've been lacking. Taking him off was a basic error. 2. O'Brien must replace Cid as an automatic starter next to Meite.

Other than that, onwards and upwards.

There is a certain irony that many on here were calling for 'attractive football' last season and a number of wiser old heads suggested being careful for what you wish for. I wouldn't mind betting that a fair number of those slagging off BSA's style are the same ones now moaning about our win-loss record this season (can't be arsed trawling back to find proof but I'd wager serial moaners are just that). Keep the faith, It'll be reet.

Splendid first post.

And took him 18 months

I don't think we will have to worry about Nobby 'cos the way his dad was up out of his seat absolutely fuming at his miss I doubt he will ever dare to have a bad game again.

I'm sure there will be a few home truths spoken and he needs to listen carefully (without pointing!)
