What's Your Personal Claim To Fame?

There must be some 15 minute heroes on this website.

C'mon, let's hear it....... the time you appeared on the front page of the BEN, when you bobbed your head into screen on Granada Reports, the time you were an extra on Corrie, as a 10 year old at the Albert Hall in some theatre production, etc.

Judge slams soccer louts

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Thursday 3rd Oct 2002.

FOUR Bolton Wanderers fans have been banned from attending football matches for five years for their part in a violent attack against Manchester United supporters.

And in a damning indictment of their behaviour a judge told them: "Bolton Wanderers does not need fans like you."

The four men, three from Bolton and one from St Helens, were part of a violent gang attack on rival fans in a public mall outside the Reebok stadium.

Judge Gillian Ruaux said ******************************************** had all narrowly avoided being sent to jail.

She told them she viewed the offence very seriously adding: "This was stupid and persistent behaviour in a public place."

The four were also banned from being within one mile of any Premier or League football matches for two hours before and after the games.

The men had been watching Bolton play United on a screen in Middlebrook retail park when violence erupted and fans tried to smash their way into The Spirit of St Louis bar which was packed with United supporters. ************************, all from Bolton and ******, from St Helens, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence. They had been remanded in custody overnight. They had been part of a larger gang of Bolton fans who attacked the bar. One United fan was fined for his role in the disturbance.

******, aged 34, of Dougill Street, Bolton, ********, aged 29, of Northern Grove, Heaton, ******* aged 35, of Rusland Drive, Harwood, and ******, aged 32, of Dilloway Street, St Helens, admitted affray on January 29 this year. Alaric Bassano, prosecuting, said that the four men met up at the Reebok stadium and went to watch the match at one of the bars at the Middlebrook retail park. A large-scale disturbance broke out at near the Spirit of St Louis bar, which has since been replaced by the clothes shop Next, which is in the mall containing shops and the cinema complex.

Mr Bassano said Bolton Wanderers fans had been provoked by a Manchester United fan who left the bar to proclaim to the mall that United had just scored.

They rushed the bar and one United fan, hiding behind an advertising stand, was kicked in the head and was attacked with a bottle.

Female security staff at the Spirit of St Louis bar were attacked as the Bolton gang attempted to smash their way through the door.

Bolton supporters attempted to throw waste bins through the bar windows while United fans hurled glasses and bottles through the door into the mall.

The four Bolton fans were captured on CCTV and were later identified by police as being part of the larger Bolton gang.

All four men had previous convictions and all four had been involved in trouble involving football in the past. Judge Ruaux sentenced each of the men to a 120 hour Community Punishment Order as a direct alternative to prison and placed each of them under a Community Rehabilitation Order for two years.

In addition she said ******* should attend the rigorous Think First programme because he had problems with controlling his anger. All the defendants were ordered to pay ?150 towards court costs.

She told them that at their ages they should think of their families and their responsibilities.

Judge Ruaux warned them if they appeared in court again they would face custody.

Today the condemnation of the fans was echoed by Bolton Wanderers. A spokesman for the club said: "We fully endorse what the judge has said about the case. The club does not condone this type of behaviour and the sooner we get rid of these people from our sport and from Bolton Wanderers the better."

Kath Brown of the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Club added: "These people are not proper fans and just want to cause trouble.

"We're proud of our record as supporters and have a good relationship with the other fans. A five year ban is good news because no football club needs bad publicity of this kind."

Bolton Boys Federation: Sub keeper is Youth Cup hero for Fed

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Wednesday 22nd Oct 2003.

BOLTON Boys fed under 16 side reached the semi final of the LFA Youth Cup, thanks to an outstanding performance by substitute goalkeeper *****************.

He pulled off a number of fine saves to keep opponents Hyndburn at bay to take the Man of the Match accolade.

After a nervous start and an injury to Bolton's goalkeeper, ****** came off the bench and rose to the occasion as his opponents threw everything at him.

The evidently not-so-famous Stephen Billington.

http://archive.theboltonnews.co.uk/1998/8/14/793286.html

DIARY: Stephen shows his 'evil' streak

From the Bolton Evening News, first published Friday 14th Aug 1998.

CORONATION Street's latest hunk Greg Kelly - alias Bolton-born actor Stephen Billington - is turning out to be a chip off the old block.

Not, we hasten to add, that we are casting any aspersions on Stephen's real dad Derek. But Greg, for whom current storylines show him in a decidedly dodgy light, looks like following in the footsteps of his Street dad, the dreaded Les Battersby.

Like his light-fingered "dad", Greg is plotting to get his hands on Sally's money. Unlike the awful Les, handsome six-footer Greg, whose family moved from Bolton to South Africa when he was but a lad, is using his considerable charms to wangle Sally from her legacy loot.

Many Corrie fans feel sorry for Sally and dippy, duped hairdresser girlfriend Maxine, falling for our Stephen's good-looks. This "evil" streak in Stephen doesn't seem to have put off any of his Bolton female fans!

Fatty Arbuckle saves the day, did you just lie on your back when you came on? ::::::lol::::::

Only claims to fame are pics in the B.E.N, whilst in the Brownies, various sports teams at secondary school, and once whilst presenting a bird table we made in woodwork to the Bolton Hospice. Also had my name in the paper when i won the colouring competition in Bennies ( kids section of BEN).

Rather tame!

Shagging that fat bird off Emmerdale

Well, someone was going to do it.

Well, someone was going to do it.

Playing guitar with Billy Bragg is my personal favourite but as it was only backstage so I don't think its really a claim to fame. Getting drunk with John Savident was another odd night (no, its wasn't the one where he got stabbed!) Although Alan Ball being my cousin is about as close as I get.

Still, I did run a comp in my office about 5 years ago to see who could get the biggest story about themselves in their local paper as we all came from different parts of the country. I won with this rubbish story - full page! Just shows that the Plymouth News is more picky about its subjects than the BEN.

LIKE any great wanderer, xxxxxxxx just cannot escape his roots.

The 24-year-old left Bolton for Ramsgate a year ago to take up a new job.

And he quickly discovered that although you can remove the man from Bolton -- you cannot easily remove Bolton from the man.

That is because, although he now lives 296 miles away from his home town, he has teamed up with a girl living in Bolton House . . . in Bolton Street.

And now he is living there, too . The house is owned by his girlfriend, xxxxxxxxx, aged 28, whom he met six months ago.

He only realised fate was on his side when xxxxxx drove him to the house -- and all he could see was the word Bolton.

"It was like, 'Are you kidding me?'. It was so weird," he said. "I saw Bolton Street first, but when I walked up to the front door and saw Bolton House, I was in disbelief.

"xxxxx said she couldn't think of anything else to call the house, so went for the boring option. I told her there was nothing boring about Bolton."

Since then he has underlined the Bolton connection by handing xxxxx his old Wanderers shirt and taking her along to a match at the Reebok Stadium.

xxxxxx is now a Wanderers fan, but she hates watching Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights on Channel 4 -- because xxxxxxx never stops pointing out the Bolton locations.

He said: "I really annoy her by saying, 'That's where so-and-so works' or 'I used to hang out there'. She just tells me to shut up and watch, but I just love the town."

xxxxx went to Smithills School and Turton Sixth Form College.

He studied drama and music at Manchester University before taking a job for the Theatre, Canterbury, where he met up with xxxxxx.

On his induction at the theatre he spotted xxxxx, who he later found out edited the Kent County Council's internal magazine. He e-mailed her a photo and a piece about a band he was in and the pair became close.

xxxx, from Canterbury, has since moved jobs and works in London. But she still lives with xxxxxx at Bolton House.

"It would be hard to move away," xxxxxx said.

Bloody cringeworthy but very funny at the time.

When 3 of us were doing Community Studies in Kearsley - we saved an old woman's life. Got our pics taken and a feature story appeared in the BEN soon after. My dad still proudly displays the clipping at his house!!

Got on the front of the Chronicle when I did my yellow armband at Sandy Holt's place as a 14 year old! Showed a pic of all of us who had taken the grades.

Also made the paper with the beach balls 2 years ago.

TV appearance was brief - pogoing to The Damned when they played at Pleasuredome in Farnworth for the TV prog Hold Tight.

(My daughter made the front cover of the Telegraph business section earlier this year!)

have been quoted in all the major newpsapers.

so many times, one stops counting.

I remember one sparkling interview on the value of travel insurance and a compelling piece shortly after 9/11 about terrorist exclusion clauses.

For some reason they never used a picture :nea:

Somebody with the same name as me is spokesperson for some place on obesity.

One Hump or Two, page 152. I'll say no more.

Got my picture in the Manchester Evening News when I was 13 after organising a pop quiz at school to raise money for Pendlebury Childrens Hospital - my girlfriends sister had meningitis at the time and was cared for there.

Apart from that, not much else, apart from appearing in an episode of House Invaders on BBC1 alongside the lovely Anna Ryder Richardson, whilst she did a reasonable job of a house makeover of a mates place. Didn't receive a single piece of fanmail or any royalties from subsequent showings. Disgraceful!! <_<

I was on TV during the minutes silence when we played Wolves at the Bok one time.

I was also on TV at Hilton Park when Leigh RMI played Fulham in the Cup, Brevett was taking a throw and you could just about see me stood up behind him in the terraces.

And interviewed by Peter Smith of SSN in Bolton while on my dinner from work when BFS got the Newcastle job. It was only shown once though, but I knew I was on due to a couple of texts I received from a few pals of mine.
