No

2 games unbeaten

surprised, no

wonder if its worth bothering, aye

This was always going to be our first sub 20,000 crowd for a long, long time.

However, I'm surprised at how low the crowd was. 17,000 home fans is shocking, will be interesting to see how many absentees can be attributed to the Megson Factor.

possibly the most pathetic reason for missing the game though.

The JCL stayaways can do so. Probably slagging off the Anelka substitution from the comfort of a pub

I despair of the kind of fans we used to attract, if after a few months of bad games we've lost 6-8 thousand fans

rather than point to bad form over a "few months" i think you'll find most fans that stopped going would point to lack of ambition from board, the type of players signed in summer due to lack of investment in team, appointment of sammy lee, appointment of megson and style of football over last few years.. fair enough that it was quite successful but if people dont enjoy it then they wont be shelling out 3- 500 quid a year to watch it will they ?

I always thought being a fan was about supporting your club through anything.... Bolton could appoint Satan himself as manager and end up in the Conference but I'd still go. I wasn't there in Division 4 (due to my age) but I'm sure some of the older fans will agree that success, ambition and playing staff are all insignificant when it comes to supporting the team

It just shows that the club didnt price the season tickets/match prices at the correct price.

see this is the one that tickles me ok megson's appointment could be construed to show lack of ambition but other than that what are they to do spend money we don't have?? get in even ore debt to satisfy people who's opinion of abition is to spunk loads of cash on players left right and centre?

they were a tenner or 15 quid on wednesday how do you explain that one?

You should of seen the lack of Ambition, style, type of players and shit managers in the 80's, all packed in transits heading to the likes of Lincoln,Torquay, and York ( the good old days). :pardon:

Its a bit wierd this thing with the dropping attendences, but we are not the only ones.

On one hand I do believe that a town the size of Bolton SHOULD have 25,000 fans who go to every home game, however I will never criticise a person because they couldn't afford to go. If you can't afford it you can't afford it simple as. I know plenty of people who pick an choose their games because their finances dictate it. If I had enough disposable income I would go to every game home away reserves etc etc as would the majority of Bolton fans. If I had enough money I would be on the board, if I had enough money I would buy Ronaldinho.

I really don't think its down to a lack of passion or desire by the fans just a lack of resources.

When I first started paying for myself to go onto Burnden it cost ?3.50, I am damn sure my wages haven't gone up at the same rate that ticket prices have.

was there in 4th division days. i'm not saying they should stay away.. but if they feel they aren't enjoying what they see then they wont go and "spunk money they haven't got" will they ? it works both ways you see. i'm wondering why bolton dont have money though. ? going back about 4 years we used to budget for finishing 17th and with around half a million prize money for each place (not sure how accurate that is) you'd expect we try to improve the team.. up until 5 or 6 games from the end of last season we could still qualify for champs league.. fans (including me who still goes as often as [possible) would of liked to see us try to sign 2 or 3 quality players to try and make that jump.. instead we signed 12 nobodies... thats the kind of thing that forces fans to say we have no ambition.

Tenner on 15 quid on wednesday is too much when the game was played on a thursday.

We are talking about EPL crowds, not UEFA.

exactly carrick... i was there myself in those transits etc.. the lads that went in those days went because they enjoyed the whole experience of going to a match.. i mean the craic with the lads, the beer, the smelly transit etc.. what a good laugh it was.. but most people even on shit wages could still afford football and beer on saturday and midweek too. the walk into town afterwards for a night on the beer or, if u chose... the 10 minute drive home.

i still believe that when the fans (even the skint ones) have something at the reebok they enjoy, they will come back. when fans were skint in "the transit van days", even though managers and football was rubbish, they still found money from somewhere to be on those trips. times have changed, simple as that..

We are not going to keep players like Diouf and Anelka with such low crowds as today. We are in the Premier league and going through a bad time and the fans are dropping off in their droves. We need as much support as possible and to create an initmidating atmosphere.

and the 6000 of us that no longer ago...

the majority i would guess are in the age bracket of 30 - 45...and those that enjoyed those days..

right not having go at you sir...

can we just clarify something...on numerous thread last week the doom and gloom merchants were saying how these days it is sky money that matters NOT the supporters.

are we now saying that the supporters do have an significant impact on the clubs finances ?

surely if a game is on telly the drop off in crowd is more than made up by the money from TV.

i would like samhater etc etc to explain this to me.......

For me the crowd has a MASSIVE part to play. It is probably true that most of the cash the Club generates is from Sky but the crowd is important in other ways. The crowd can lift the players. I know it works both ways and the players have to get the crowd going. An intimidating crowd can unnerve opposition players and even the referee.

Meggers was very upbeat about the crowd, moreso than Fat Sam and Sh?t Sam. I'm warming to him.

It is true that most people were unhappy at Megson's appointment but it is done now. We have to get behind him and the team. I really hope he proves me wrong. Fat Sam was on Goals on Sunday this morning and he laughed saying we didn't exactly warm to him at first. Let us all now give this guy a chance. He seems a nice enough bloke and all he has done is apply for a job and got it.

Megson's Super White Army! Megson's Super White Army.

I don't think he applied, we headhunted him :pardon:

He spoke sense in a couple of interviews I've heard

When asked whether he had deliberately played Allardyce players in an Allardyce system etc, he said 'not really, but we're just looking to put square pegs in square holes and round pegs in round holes at this stage' - music to my ears that

And he said he thought the crowd were really good to both him and the team, but he understood they were twitchy and the players are low on confidence

Just common sense stuff really which is a blessed relief after the nonsense we've been subjected to lately with Lee's 'positives', strange selections, and alleged 'style of play'

If Megson gets the camp happy and pulling in the same direction we'll be fine, I'm sure of it, and the signs were there for all to see. The effort was there, Diouf was geeing everyone up, the relief amongst the players was tangible... they seemed like they actually knew what the hell they were meant to be doing

yep me too. heard him on 5 live sounded good. they mentioned on the radio about boos at the final whistle and he said he didn't hear any. i didn't hear any meself but any that were there must have been for the ref surely. or maybe a journalist looking for a bite. anyway we aint bottom we are on a drawing streak and it's only ten days til my munich jolly. :good:
