Moving To Horwich

Featured Replies

Not me. Friends of mine.

Looked on a map of the North-West of England and picked Horwich as an ideal spot. Key things were access to a motorway to Glasgow, access to South Manc (Airport(ish)) by car, train station nearby (pref. walking distance otherwise free parking nearby) for getting to Manchester and a pub within staggering distance.

I told her I didn't know Horwich but Lostock fitted the bill. They also suggested Blackrod.

Now, where would you say was best? And are there decent places to live in Horwich/Blackrod?

Thanking you.

I'd recommend Adlington to them.

This is a serious reply btw.

They could move to 'Horwich's' and 'Zico's' neighbourhood on the Brazley estate.

Ta. They're going up to look around in a few weeks time, will probably rent first if they like the look. How long from Adlington to Manc on the train?

Edit: that was lazy, I can look on National Rail.

Zico grew up in the same area as me. Not a bite, but I can assure you it is nowhere near Brazley Manor.

35 to 50 minutes, depending on how many stations it stops at. It's the on the main line as is Horwich & Blackrod. Trains are pretty regular tbh.

Thanks again. Looks like more trains than from Lostock, if you go via Chorley. And more chance of a seat I guess.

With Heaton you'd have to drive to Horwich and park, no? Is parking at Parkway free?

Heaton? Park at Lostock.

To sit down? Depends on the time. < 7.30am should get a seat.

It's only 20 mins, anyway.

Speaking as an Ex-Blackrodian, I'd go Lostock. Blackrod has lost it's village feel and has gone a bit down hill over recent years IMO. There are, however, a much better choice of boozers/restaurants in the area.

Lostock is the one.

Horwich, dirtrod and adlington are full of chavs.

Adlington would be my last choice,

Lostock, horwich, blackrod, adlington.

Tell em to have a look at the estates near the Lostock arms and on Lostock Juntion lane.

The show-house at Brazley is having an open day this very weekend.

Lord Street is next weekend.

if they go for regent road, lostock lane junction area its walking distance to lostock train station, or chew moor is only 5 min in car. although it has been built on recently(overly so imo) it is a still a nice area. not sure if schools are a factor but lostock primary and beaumont are both excellant and bolton school, rivington and blackrod and all the major church schools are reasonably accessable. personally i would go for chew moor or regent road depending on budget but then again i am biased.

if she is fit does she want a tour? :p

If she's friends with EG , she's more likely to need a Stannah than a tour

She's a fair bit younger than me, can drink me under the table, drinks beer, has been working with me for over a year, good fun.

Down sides are she's from Yorkshire and her boyfriend is Glaswegian.

I'm not from round there

if I've been spotted there it's only at times when I wish to feel fashionable

I'd go with Lostock tbh. Blackrod isn't the village it once was and all the boozers are either pretty crap or shutting anyway. Horwich is OK but there are some shitty bits. Adlington does suffer the same issues as those mentioned but i'd say not on the same scale, plus its cheaper to insure your car/house there than anywhere in Bolton.

Getting on the M61 in a morning is a ragging mare for all of the mentioned towns/villages though.

If they want to be close to Manchester for boozing and the airport why don't they just live in South Manchester?

Extra 15 minutes on your journey to Glasgow and at the risk of offending one or two on here you don't have to live in a one horse town full of window lickers. :good:
