I almost certainly would've taken Souness over Megson. I was baffled by the Megson appointment, utterly baffled.

I wanted Coleman but only in preference to the crap that was being touted. Megson was a complete shock to me (as it must have been to most).

Spot on. The Lee appointment is the root of all our trouble. It smacked of a panic move, which was needless given the timing. In fact it was stupid, given the timing. It was a 'f?ck you' to Allardyce in my opinion, as was the public slagging off of him, and changing the style of play etc.

to me it was following a plan 3 years too soon, no more no less.

 

no cheap option just what system the club had set up for when sam left, however he left earlier than planned and rather than searching for a new manager Gartside decided to promote Lee too soon

Did the same, also no response, although unlike you I had actually warmed to Megson, sadly that warmth has now completely disapated.
