marple whites Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Apparently had 500 extra police on for this game. All pubs shut 4 hours before kick off. This is the game that apparently attracts the most football related disorder in England at present.

I don't think i've ever seen a game against them at Burnden were there wasn't trouble.
Guest The Special One Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 they are tame those games, worst are man u v liverpool/everton

enzo gambaro Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 The report was put together by the nice people at New Football Pools, and they only asked 6000 people so it's little wonder Bury and Rochdale is deemed a more passionate affair than the Manchester Derby! 1 West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Ipswich Town and Norwich City 3 Liverpool and Manchester United 4 Portsmouth and Southampton 5 Cardiff City and Swansea City 6 Aston Villa and Birmingham City 7 Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday 8 Bristol City and Bristol Rovers 9 Newcastle United and Sunderland 10 Brighton and Crystal Palace 11 Derby County and Nottingham Forest 12 Blackpool and Preston North End 13 Darlington and Hartlepool United 14 Luton Town and Watford 15 Blackburn Rovers and Burnley 16 Port Vale and Stoke City 17 Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur 18 Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United 19 Everton and Liverpool 20 Leeds United and Manchester United 21 Chester City and Wrexham 22 Chesterfield and Mansfield Town 23 Northampton T and Peterborough United 24 Bury and Rochdale 25 Manchester City and Manchester United 26 Coventry City and Leicester City 27 Millwall and West Ham United 28 Accrington Stanley and Morecambe 29 Colchester United and Southend United 30 Macclesfield Town and Stockport County http://www.footballpools.com/football-feve...ies-league.html

Do we feature at all in the top 100? Accrington v Morecambe ?????? The Brighton v Palace always amuses me. Where does the history come from in this one?

frank_spencer Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 the missus was at uni in alsager (about half way between Crewe and Stoke)on derby day everyone just stayed well away from either.
marple whites Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 They've obviously never been to a Sheffield derby, now they are horrible! I went to university in Sheffield and went to quite a few derbies. Saw quite a bit of trouble, but wasn't that bad.
bolty58 Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Other than the Old Firm games, the bitterest has to be Brum/Villa. Class warfare that is. As TSO says, Brum p1ss it.
Guest Muzzle Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 That list is obviously a load of crap....one of the worst was Chelsea Tottenham, Arsenal Tottenham is nothing compared to that one.
MickyD Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 That list is obviously a load of crap....one of the worst was Chelsea Tottenham, Arsenal Tottenham is nothing compared to that one. You may have a point. But you're not arguing about Bury/Rochdale!!!!
enzo gambaro Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 TSO, I'm not sure football rivalry is exclusively about knocking f?ck out of each other!
Zico Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I went to university in Sheffield and went to quite a few derbies.Saw quite a bit of trouble, but wasn't that bad. they did though have a steel city friendly in a pre season match and either before/after a bloke had a paving stone dropped on his head, so they got Mark Bright to publicly ask for calm before the next one, if that counts
Guest Muzzle Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 TSO, I'm not sure football rivalry is exclusively about knocking f?ck out of each other! Never went to a local rivalry where there wasn't someone looking to have a pop at you as an away supporter
enzo gambaro Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I remember a friendly between Portsmouth and Southampton (it might have been Alan Knight's testimonial) in the early/mid-nineties. Saints had been in the top division for ages while Pompey had struggled down the leagues, so they hadn't met in ages. Carnage ensued.
Crawley White Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 they are each others closest rivals Places such as Crawley/Horsham/Gatwick areas there is support for both, they really don't like each other very much. Although to be honest most people in this town support West Ham or Spurs with a smattering of West Sussex Reds (both Liverpool & Utd).

I thought they'd be on strike...or maybe arresting thieving smackheads who rob old women....but that doesn't get the same amount of press
