I'm sure i read somewhere that Thessaloniki is supposedly a fabulous place - riddled with bars, and theres beaches, an old town,nightlife etc etc

ive been to thessaloniki loads of times the city is qt industrial , but if you travel an hour out of the city there are some great resorts - check out -hanioti - polychrono - pefcohori areas

there are also regular flights to athens daily from thessaloniki airport

hope this helps you ( the people are fantastic and so friendly )

ive been to thessaloniki quite a few times and ive been to that stadium watching iran and some other backward country in the olyimpics

flights from gatwick and heathrow are much cheaper - problem is its bang in the middle of the school hols - and lots of greeks take holidays using thessaloniki as the destination airport - so it could work out qt expensive

 

or maybe do it arse about tit - fly to athens ( more flights ) - local transfer to thessaloniki and back to athens for 2nd game and your back at athens airport ?
