GARY MEGSON has reinforced his backroom staff by appointing former Southampton manager Steve Wigley as Head Coach.

The former Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City player will link up with Wanderers when he returns from a short family holiday.

Wigley, who also enjoyed a spell as assistant manager/first team coach at Manchester City, will combine his duties at the Reebok Stadium with his role as coach with the England under 21 set-up.

Whats that chap from Wolves do? I thought he was a coach also - how many do we need?

He looks like Chief Wiggum's son!

Always been a fan of his spearmint gum

we already have, muamba is u21 captain is he not?

did he nearly come and play for us once? or have I imagined it?

he was a winger in his playing days so he might add a bit of attacking/creative nouse into the coaching set up. He also seems to have a good track record/knack for dealing with young players and training them up to be good in the future. If this is the line that Megson seems to be taking the club then i think its a good appointment. He has got some good credentials and, although his 'managerial' record at places like So'Ton is pretty poor, thats not what we've got him for. A good replacement for LSL who was a very good coach

Aye, BUT what's he like on Champ Coach?

Aye, BUT what's he like on Champ Coach?

Very VERY good NB

only opinion I have on this guy is based on his time at Saints when he managed them

he was less cut out for management than Sammy Lee

appeared to be a nice bloke but soft as sh?te, wouldn't say boo to a goose sort of a bloke, on the back of a 10-0 defeat would probably say "never mind lads eh, maybe next time"

but, having already compared him to sammy lee, i reckon he's a coach and not a manager so that's alright then

In the words of a fat American singer "you took the words right out of my mouth". Another Sammy Lee job. Sounds good to me. Is Meggers gonna be a bad cop then?? Grrrrrrrrr, all angry n shouty n all that.

P.S. Its a shame about is short family though. Are they midgets or dwarfs. Can i say that theses days/ or is it too un-pc?

Rather alot actually.

Apparently, out of 24 backroom staff we had during Allardyce's last season, there were 4 left at the end of last season.

Also, a poster on this site who coaches at another club's academy has been informed by a member of the BWFC coaching staff that there's a few folk up at Euxton that are miffed with the fact that most of the fancy scientific equipment etc has been left to "gather dust"

This has been mentioned before and a few of us Dads who post on WW, who went on the Euxton open days for the Junior Whites with our lads in May, were able to confirm that it is utter rubbish and just another anti-Megson message.

As for the new head coach, massive fans at work speak quite highly of him BUT there again he was at their club when they had that horrendous run of not scoring at home from January to May two seasons back!!

He also holds the dubious honour of being the least successful manager in the history of Aldershot Town. They may have got back to the Football League in double quick time after going bust but Wrigley failed to get them out of the Isthmain League first division in his three seasons in charge.

As Zico has said - not a manager, so lets hope Gartside hasn't made this England U'21 coach the same promise that Sammy Lee alegedly got on his appointment as first team coach at Bolton!!

No offence Yatesy, but I believe my best mate who works as a professional inside the game over what a few Dads think they've seen at a junior whites day.

And for the record he's not anti-Megson in the slightest.

Only passing on what we actually saw and were told from the BWFC member of staff who took us on the tour.

If your mate is correct then I can only assume BWFC dusted down the equipment and placed records, charts and graphs on the walls for our benefit.

knowing another seperate lad who till being made redundant in May coached the u14s, I concur with Jules

as for your assumption, it was an open day after all, far more interesting than watching the lads sprint round the pitch till they puke

Fred Barber with the keepers is supposed to be even worse.

He has had a sand pit built in which he does a lot of training. The idea being to sap the energy in the keepers legs even more than training on grass does. We were told that they often end the sessions in the sand pit crying in agony.*

In Chief Wiggum's Son's defence, I reckon us Northerners know more Masseeevs than you do and so have a better poll. I still think the bloke looks like a c?ck though and for that reason I will not be giving him a chance. :D
