Well, is the congestion charge part of the proposals? I think it is, and therefore it's part of the plan.

If one side say it should contain the phrase congestion charge, the other side should campaign for having "improved public transport" in the question too.

I think the Deane Road cark park is for the "Uni" & Topp Way/ Bath Street is hardly near the train/bus station.

There is plenty of congestion on the M61 & M60 in a morning any time after 7!

 

Thing is, a lot of folk are trying to get to out-of-town commercial parks that these councils gave planning for even though theres no viable public transport to get to them.

 

Also, surely the improvements to public transport should come first, then any charging to follow?

Correct. I used to work on an industrial park in Prestwich/Broughton and the only way to get there was, as you say, on M61/M60. I have a friend still works there and says it has got worse. Thing is though, it does appear the new improved public transport links won't help folk who live over here to get to East Manchester, where I believe a lot of regeneration is going on.

I live 5 minutes walk from a tram station and work in the centre of Manchester. If I get the tram it takes me at least 45 minutes door to door, standing uncomfortable close to people I wouldn't ordinarily go within 300 yards of.

 

I drive, dropping the nipper off at nursery, pass through two of the proposed rings on supposedly congested roads and it takes me 20 minutes to get in. Piece of piss. Coming home it takes 15 minutes. And that's what really boils my piss is the feckers want to charge you to get home.

i too have a short cut that gets me from didsbury to town inside 15 mins

 

but even then, I sit in 5mph traffic for the time I'm on the parkway

as is the m56 / parkway from about junction 7

 

lad I work with, sits in traffic on the 62 from warrington everyday

 

for purely selfish reasons, I think they should abolish the charge / inner circle and not charge anyone who lives within manchester city limits

If they were to bring the Metrolink to Bolton, then I'd vote "Yes". Until then, my vote is alway going to be "No". Can't see what use a couple of extra 2nd hand train carriages & another refurb of the worst bus/train interchange in the north west is gonna do for the good people of Bolton.

I work in Trafford park and start at 7 because its the best time to avoid traffic. I set off at around 6-35 to 6-40 and get there easy using M60. If i started work any later and set off at say 7 its a ragging car park, problem is i dont think that this charge will do anything to help because people will still drive but they'll just be poorer while the cunts rake in the money. There is no viable way by public transport for me to get to my work from the Tyldesley area.

And that's down to the Governments shortsightedness in granting planning permission on east of that site. Apparently, only a few houses in Bradley Fold would need to be knocked down to be able to re-open the Bury - Bolton line. Millions of pounds were spent by Network Rai la few years ago to bring both Darcy Lever & Burnden viaducts back up to scratch. These will probably now fall back into disrepair. IMO

My question is as follows

 

Trains are limited in length and height because when we built the railways in Victorian times, nobody had the foresight to cater for the groth of towns and cities

 

Subsequently, most train station platforms are only suitable for 3 carriages, which rules out most of the stops between Liverpool and Manchester. Trains can't be built higher (as in the Holland double deckers, etc) as the railway bridges are too low. So how exactly is this upgrade to public transport going to work. There will still only be the same number of seats available, comfy of not so overcrowding will prevail

 

PS, I've normally found that pulling your trousers down and sitting with them round your ankles for the entire journey almost always guarantees you two seats to yourself. I wouldn't advise this if your journey involves going anywhere near Brighton (unless you close your eyes and pretend it's a women)

The nice and shiny new train carriages were introduced last year, they replaced trains with 2 packed carriages with trains with 1 even more packed carriage and another that had two thirds taken up with a first class carriage
