Sluffy Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Megson closes in on first target GARY Megson hopes to wrap-up his first signing of the transfer window over the next few days ? but the new name through the Reebok doors is unlikely to be West Brom?s James Morrison. Wanderers have temporarily cooled their interest in the Scotland international after a ?3million bid was rejected by the Baggies on New Year?s Eve. Although he has not ruled out an improved bid in the future, Megson is concentrating his efforts on another deal which he hopes to complete after the weekend. West Ham defender Callum Davenport has been strongly linked as the player in the frame. Explaining the situation, the Wanderers boss revealed that he is keeping tabs on four different players. ?We are in the process of bringing one player in,? he said. ?We have tried for more, but we should be able to get that one done sooner rather than later. ?We made an offer for James Morrison at West Brom which was turned down and we have made tentative enquiries on another two players. We?ll see what happens after the weekend with them.? Morrison remains a target and it is thought a bid in excess of ?3.5m could seriously test West Brom?s resolve. ?I don?t know whether we will go back in for James,? Megson said. ?The offer was turned down flat. ?The position we are looking at, James? name is not the only one in the frame, so it might depend on what is happening elsewhere as well. Every football club will be the same at this stage of the transfer window ? we?ll have to see what happens.? Megson?s interest in Morrison has brought about a furious reaction from Baggies boss Tony Mowbray, who accused him of trying to unsettle the 22-year-old midfielder. ?I am disappointed that any conversations between the clubs have come out,? the Hawthorns chief said. ?It isn?t the way business should be done because you can disrupt footballers, not that it will with James because he is a diamond of a lad. ?I think he knows he is in the right place for his career to develop and if he is to move on from Albion at any time it will be at a time that?s right for his career and the club. That moment isn?t now. ?I?m trying to be very respectful to the club who made contact but I don?t think it?s something that would appeal to him. ?It?s dead as far as I?m concerned and as far as James is concerned and I don?t think there is any distraction.? http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/wanderers/4...n_first_target/

Tombwfc Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Megson only talked about Morrison after West Brom had confirmed they'd rejected a bid. Mowbray talking shite as usual.
HomerJay Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 davenport isnt a bad player. lots of potential a couple of years ago. admittedly not really progressed, but at a couple of million is no real gamble imo. and would provide usefull backup.
athywhite Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 callum ragging davenport !!! who do you want pele ffs, why is it every time a name is mentioned someone feels the need to come on and slag them off, take it from me we wont be signing any world beaters, but these days we slag em off before we have got them, chill out.

IF we sign him i wont get on his back but i am hoping for signings that are much more exciting. i do not slag off everything the club does, far from it, but equally i do not just accept everything they do.
