Tactically maybe another thing, though I think a large part of the problem maybe related to his backroom staff. There is no problem with a manager having negative tendencies provided there is someone working alongside who is more adventurous, unfortunately Steve Wigley is even more negative than Megson and I feel a large part of the problem. The negativity is highlighted by the fact that only 6 players have scored in the league this season and the top 2 in the assist column are defenders.

We've just had a ludicrous amount of injuries and suspensions all together, so we've been short for 2 games. That we'd arguably have lost anyway.

 

 

I'd have considered keeping Stelios though - even last season he won us a match or two coming on as sub didn't he? He always had that goalscoring knack.

Out of all those, I would have kept only Abdoulaye Faye. I don't think any of the others would get into our first team at the moment. Stelios possibly as a squad player but the rest are hardly missed.

I was trying to make two points at once and maybe did not explain myself properly -

 

The first was that we WANTED him to stay but he did not want too, he rejected the club and a much improved contract extension. He left to join Allardyce at Newcastle.

 

Also to point out that Megson had nothing to do with him leaving before someone blamed him for that as they blame him for seemingly everything else!

 

To be fair Faye was not a success at Newcastle but seems to be doing ok at 19th place Stoke City.

Your list of ins and outs is not comparing like with like

 

If you don't include Anelka and Diouf in the outs then the players Megson signed cost roughly ?20 million more than the list of players he released.I should hope with ?20 million he could improve on the journeymen/ageing pros/young pros he didn't rate that he released.

 

If Speed,Campo and Stelios weren't over the hill then they would walk into the current side.The central defence is that bad that Campo might even get a game there.Unfortunately they haven't been replaced with ageing pros of a similar calibre but not yet quite over the hill.Gardner who wouldn't get a game in the midfield 2 seasons ago is now arguably our most dangerous attacking midfield option.

 

Of the list of outs not including Anelka and Diouf i would prefer one of Andranik or Dzemaili to one of McCann or Nolan.Our current first choice midfield of McCann/Nolan/Muamba is too negative.

Andranik won the game at Wigan for us with 2 goals.One a good header,the other a good run and cool finish.None of our current central midfield could have scored those goals.

How many games has nolan won for us over the years?

 

In the time Andranik was here he made such a little impact on the side and now can't get in the flum side or even on their bench.

 

Dzemaili looked lost when he played, perhaps given a run he might be a good ball player but neither of them would improve the attacking flair of our midfield IMO

Nolan has won several games for us over the years,but hasn't been producing the goods for too long.There was a train of thought that we performed better when he was in the side even if he played badly but i don't go along with that now.

 

Andranik wasn't given a good enough chance at Bolton.To write off the match winning performance as a one off was foolish.Fulham have a superior midfield to Bolton,i doubt Nolan or McCann would get in it either.

 

Dzemaili's technique and ability to pass seen in this pre season in Greece are exactly what we need.Can't believe we let him go.

I think you are missing the point Clown.

 

We had a normal size squad BUT a fair few of them - Campo, Andranik, Cid, etc, etc, had either gone past their sell by date or were never good enough. So we needed to get better players in and ship the others out. BUT because we have over ?50 million pound's of debt we could not afford to get the good players in AND still have the others on our books.

 

So the players had to be got off the books first BEFORE we could get better in.

 

We are at the stage where we have got shut of most the club wanted too (I'm guessing Hunt my be pencilled into go too) and so the squad as been at its lowest and is now starting to grow by get better players in.

 

Yes, I agree that somebody somewhere is responsible for allowing the squad to grow full of not up to the mark players but in order to move forward they had to go before we could afford to get new in - which has resulted in having a small squad recently (made worse with injuries and suspensions).
