Whizz Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Reet, my son is due to start school in September and the education authority have fooked up the application procedure and we didn't get offered a place. Basically, we applied with the school and they told us to wait for the education to get in touch. They should of sent us a priority form, to choose our 3 schools of choice. They didn't. We checked with the school and they told us that our registration had been sent to the authority, we checked with them and they had the details. Then as they never sent out the priority form we now get offered a school which is totally unpractical, and wouldn't of been in our first 6, never mind first 3. We have appealed against the decision and the offer. Just wondering, has anyone ever been in a similar situation with them? If so, what happened? I am not going to say sensible answers only, as that will never happen, but a bit of advice or help wouldn't go amiss on this one. Cheers.
Traf Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Just lodge an appeal with the LEA and explain the circumstances of how you didn't get the place you wanted. Also explain clearly why you feel you should get the school of your choice. Most appeals of this nature are successful.

no balls Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 There's a clue in the "my son" bit. I'd also like to add, I doubt Whitewhizz will want to add that bit of information on an open forum, happen it's just me though.
C86 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 There's a clue in the "my son" bit. Just to clarify Whitt, its a lad and not a towel radiator* * Myson
MickyD Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 (edited) Do a little homework first. Find out if kids going to your school of choice live further away than you from the school. Proximity is quite high on the list of acceptance points. Not as high, though, as sibling link so those that live further away from the school must be in the same circumstances as you. (I'm guessing you have no link through older siblings.) Edited March 18, 2009 by MickyD
Pea-Lad Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I have to deal with a few of these through work, sadly we can't directly help people but this is the advice we give people: Parents should follow the appeals procedure as set out by the Local Authority, details of which are sent with the school allocation letters. You can find further information on Bolton Council's website or by ringing Pupil & Student Services on 01204 332118. Advice on appeals is also given by the Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) who can be contacted on 0808 800 5793. There is also some step-by-step advice on the DirectGov website Hope that helps.

So, let me get this right. You joined BWSA and asked if folk could help you get on the committee; which happened. Now you are in a position to help . . . but 'can't'. Get yourself in Margaret Blenkinsop's office, bend her over the desk and start rogering until she gives this poor lad a place at his favoured school.
Widnes Two Hats Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Reet, my son is due to start school in September and the education authority have fooked up the application procedure and we didn't get offered a place. My lad also starts 'big school' in September, I chose his options online and he got allocated his first choice Have you thought of firebombing and asking questions later?
Pea-Lad Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 So, let me get this right. You joined BWSA and asked if folk could help you get on the committee; which happened. Now you are in a position to help . . . Hope you're joking with that! In a position to help... haha Was just offering little help from the knowledge I have on this topic.
MickyD Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 No I wasn't joking. The way you offered the advice mafde it sound as though you worked within the department that deals with appeals of this nature. The fact you then went on and said you couldn't directly help made me wonder why you'd said anything in the first place. Maybe I misunderstood your post.
Bigtoe Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 We didn't get any of our 3 preferences either We've been allocated a place for a school I don't want her to go, to say we are gutted is a slight understatement There is very little you can do in terms of an appeal for an infant placement, unless a procedure has been incorrectly followed, so you may be okay I'm building up a case for appeal just for the sake of it, but I hold out zero hope We are on standby for our choices in case not all places are accepted, we then move up the ladder Theres a school further afield we are looking into, which fingers crossed we will have some luck with Good luck!
no balls Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 How about getting them in a private school? If you really cared about your childrens' futures you'd find the money!
Bigtoe Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I've already sounded that out....it could be done but we'd be in it for the long run (including secondary) and who knows whats round the corner
isaacunt Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 How about getting them in a private school? If you really cared about your childrens' futures you'd find the money! All 3 of my kids go to private schools, & I'm on benifits. Or is it Special Schools!!!! Isaac.
seasoned Traveller Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 My youngest brother applied for Harper Green, being a 2 min walk from my mums, he ended up at George Toms a good 20 min bus journey away. Drove my mum and stepday crazy, kids from Stoneclough ended up at Harper Green when Georgies was nearer for them. It's a mess, my parents lodged an appeal, but got no where. Luckily it worked out well and he enjoyed his time at George Toms, but it could of gone the other way and he could have hated it. I blame the ticket office!!!
Garrp Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Why are people with these type of jobs so f?cking useless?
