The Secret Millionaire On C4

Anyone watch it last night?

The bloke last night gave money to a couple who run a charity that gives short breaks for terminally ill children and their familys. He also handed over a cheque to a couple of WW2 vets :cray:

Not blubbed like that since I had to hand over cash for two Tina Turner tickets. Never watched it before and I won't be watching it again if it does that to you.

It's that emontional every week. I've stopped watching for fear of becoming a humane & caring person.

This week's was quite disappointing compared with some of the others.

They're usually a lot more moving than that one!

I felt sorry for the kid with the brain tumour. Poor lad had to spend his last ever family holiday in a shithole like Blackpool.

Aye I watched it have watched both episodes from the series, cracking programme highlights some of the work the often goes unoticed and sometimes taken for granted.

Regarding the show from last neet, How bad had heroin ruined that lass, and them two owd gents were belting. Sad about the terminally ill children

Did anyone see the young lad in the last series, he was a millionaire by 18 or something? What a cracking lad and he still gets involved, I think he's the parton of some charity now.

I must admit as a grown man with two young kids, I found it hard to watch the parts with the lad with a brain tumour in without wanting to blubber. He was basically waiting to die and they all knew it. I can watch most things, but sick kids I can't.

On the other hand, I thought the two vets were class :good: They just go to show how much pride we used to have in our country before all the bed wetting ambulance chasers took over.

our mavis went Tina Turner last night :drinks:

gays

The one thing that shocked me last night was the bloke who had effectively drunk himself to death. For those who didn't watch it he was called Steve.

He used to work on the doors in Blackpool, from what people have told me here in Blackpool he obviously liked a drink, but he was always polite etc.

And to see the way he had gone from being a 6ft + doorman to what was shown last night was shocking.

At the end of the programme the closing credits showed that both he(Steve) & the young lad at Donna's Dreamhouse had since died , very sad.

Secret Millionaire is the most patronising fucking nonsense ever to grace our TV screens. People jumping up and down when thrown a few scraps from the rich is not entertainment in my book.

I don't usually watch it so i would probably agree with you that it is a patronising programme.

But me being a nosey sod, i did watch this particular episode as it was based in Blackpool, which is where i live now.

Thankfully i don't live where the programme was filmed but i don't think the problems shown are exclusive to Blackpool, they are nationwide.

The problem with Blackpool is, no matter who is in power, they are only interested in the visitor side of things with millions being spent on the seafront etc. Whilst the locals are just left to it ,basically.

Swore I wan't going to go there again, but a relegation 6 pointer is a relegation 6 pointer, so we're coming up for saturday. Are there any pubs or clubs in Blackpool not stuck in "hitman & Her" timewarp?

What a bunch of girls.

So you live on some rough arese estate.

Some strange bloke turns up you have never seen before.

Within minutes he is working for every community group including some with kids (presume no peado checks)

A couple of weeks later he is doling out money to surprise people.

Does the fact he is being followed round by a camera crew not raise any suspicions at all?

All seems very staged to me.

My thoughts exactly. What's this, the 3rd series or something? Surely a few of the people that appeared on it were suspicious and had some idea of what was really going on. I bet they couldn't believe their luck, and played up their sob stories accordingly.

Apart from the two war veterans. They were top class blokes. Thought it was a bit of a coincidence that one of them fought alongside the millionaires grandad though.

phew, i thouught it was just me - its just too contrived. do these people not wonder why the guy has a camera crew following him around!? i dont doubt its the actual millionaire's cash, or that they actually get emotional but its the whole set-up that makes you feel patronised - as if that old guy just happened to know his grandad!? & of all the people in the pub he only talked to him? the barman had his script too. Then all the cafe's in blackpool he goes in one with an advert for Donna'a house or whatever it was? It just so happened that the three charities he visited he had an emotional attachment of his own to, his grandad, his smack head sisters, his own drink problem, & his own kids. Everything is set up in advance, locations, people, charities, all scripted & strory boarded, which is fair enough, but why try and portray it as otherwise?

To make gay men weep, as evidenced in this thread.

Thanks for the reply Alien3, but chain pubs / clubs are much the same country wide.

Will have a mooch about and see what happens.

Plymouth Boys

Try these

The Flying Handbag - Facing Blackpool North Train Station

Pepe's - On the left hand side as you are walking towards the North Pier from the Train Station

Lucy's - Underneath Rumours, facing what used to be Yates

If you're staying over, there's a little boarding house call Trades that'll will be right up your alley

Widnes, experience in all cultures

I've lived here 12 years and never been in The Flying Handbag, i can't really see it being a pulling joint but stranger things happen.

PS Are you sure they were real snatch ?I'm told the cast of Funny Girls frequent it on a regular basis.

It's like i said, it depends on what you're looking for in a night out.

If you want to watch live music , there is a pub called The Belle Vue, but that's on Whitegate Drive ,so it's a bit far from the town centre i would have thought.

See the link anyway.
