Cahill

Bolton Wanderers? young central defender Gary Cahill, has been linked with a move to Arsenal according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The former Aston Villa player has impressed since moving to the Reebok Stadium, and many have tipped him for Fabio Capello?s senior squad having previously featured for Stuart Pearce?s Under 21 squad a couple of years ago.

Wenger is keen to strengthen his defence, and although many expect him to sign a number of experienced players this summer, the Frenchman may surprise a few with a continued investment in youth, starting with the 23 year old.

The newspaper reports a bid of ?10 million would certainly be enough to sign Cahill, however an offer closer to ?6 million would secure Cahill?s signature.

?6M - fcuking bullshit it would, even ?10M is only just in the right ball-park.

Also read recently that Villa are considering buying him back. A number of the 'bigger' clubs are looking for a central defender this summer and there can't be many better players around who aren't already at one of the big 4. I think we will have real troubles this summer keeping Cahill at the club.

Just thinking that myself. Ferdinand imho is the most over rated bsatard playing in the premiership.

IMHO it is the other England centre back that is the vastly over-rated one, J fcuking T. I'd much prefer Ferdinand in my team to Terry, I personally think Ferdinand is world class and worth most of the praise that he gets.

Ferdinand is the best centre half in the world.

It brings me no great pleasure to say that, but it's the truth.

Cahill is pretty good too, just don't tell anyone.

Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson has suggested it would take in excess of ?15million to prize centre-back Gary Cahill away from the club.

Cahill signed for the Trotters from Sheffield United in January 2008 and has impressed since his ?5million switch, this season demonstrating a number of commanding performances in defence.

So impressive has Cahill's form been for Bolton, reports have suggested the 23-year-old could be a target of Arsenal, who are said to be in the market for a physical stopper this summer.

Megson, though, has every intention of retaining Cahill's services and revealed the club are keen to extend his stay at the Reebok Stadium.

The best

He said in the Daily Mirror: "Gary is under contract and we are currently in the process of negotiating a new, improved deal for him.

"He's the best young centre-half in the country by an absolute street and I've been delighted with him again this year.

"I want to build the team around him for the next few seasons.

"I can understand why the big clubs are interested in Gary, but it's going to take an offer over and above what we received for Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea."

Looks like Megson agrees with me :p

Not sure I agree with that, in fact, I can't think of a better centre half in the PL at the minute.........possibly Carvalho at Chelsea, but other than that I don't see one better. I would suggest that Rio Ferdinand is in the top 3 or 4 players inthe world in his position.

John Terry is a leader. He's quite solid, but still makes big mistakes. Look at how Alex got booked in the ECL semi last week. All down to Terry. Time and time again I watch Terry and shake my head. But he's English, and one of the better ones. Many Utd fans put Ferdinand's quality down to playing alongside Vidic. He papers over the cracks and mistakes that Rio makes.

Upson seems to have done a decent job when picked, but not getting any younger.

Impossible to make comment about the likes of Mancienne, etc.

King - see SSN at the weekend - he's fooked.

Cahill is in a very good position to be in line for a potential and possibly unexpected World Cup squad inclusion - but I fear that won't happen whilst he's at Bolton. However, I'd be surprised if he risked the Arsenal option for fear of not being picked.

Surely Wenger is going for experience now - if we are to believe the media.

He'd be better going to the likes of Everton or back to Villa - I think O'Neill would be well prepared to take the gamble on him now that he's got himself some much needed top flight experience.

What Pablo won't see is that the lad has adapted to the Premiership so quickly and looks the part every game. Very rare he isn't our best player on the park. Yes he makes mistakes, but so does everyone. But let's face it - he doesn't have the best midfield in the world in front of him, or the best centre back in the world alongside him. Our two full backs have the worst positional sense in the entire league - so all-in-all - he's doing a sterling job for a poor Premiership team.

He looks so sure of himself and so confident on the ball. Here's hoping we get at least one more season out of him before the vultures have their pick.

?20M bloody hell - you can sign 10 Shittu's for that, shame you can't play them all at once!

Like smiley says i hope we get at least another season out of him and also that if he does go it isn't to Arsenal to sit on the bench

Someone needs to remind him the grass isnt always greener on the other side ask Ricketts and Tel Ben Haim :pardon:

I'm sure he knows that from his time at Villa - nothing beats playing week-in-week-out, unless you are only in the game for the money
