Cahill

Bolton Wanderers? young central defender Gary Cahill, has been linked with a move to Arsenal according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The former Aston Villa player has impressed since moving to the Reebok Stadium, and many have tipped him for Fabio Capello?s senior squad having previously featured for Stuart Pearce?s Under 21 squad a couple of years ago.

Wenger is keen to strengthen his defence, and although many expect him to sign a number of experienced players this summer, the Frenchman may surprise a few with a continued investment in youth, starting with the 23 year old.

The newspaper reports a bid of ?10 million would certainly be enough to sign Cahill, however an offer closer to ?6 million would secure Cahill?s signature.

?6M - fcuking bullshit it would, even ?10M is only just in the right ball-park.

Also read recently that Villa are considering buying him back. A number of the 'bigger' clubs are looking for a central defender this summer and there can't be many better players around who aren't already at one of the big 4. I think we will have real troubles this summer keeping Cahill at the club.

Selling Cahill is not an option even worth considering,

Between ?6million and ?10 Million is about right for this lad, anything over ?10 Million would be way too much money for an Uncapped player.

Quality Player and I can honestly see him still playing for us in 2 years time max. His potential is enormous and I honestly think he will become one of Englands greatest ever centre backs one day.

If Salamander is worth ?8.2m then Cahill is worth 10x that!

he came to Bolton to get first team football and learn the ropes, if he went to Arsenal he'd be behind Toure and Gallas in the pecking order and castigated by the big 4 press for every small mistake as Bendtner and Diaby etc have been

I do not agree Fulham paid 10 million for Johnson from you lot, this lad has the lot pace, good in the air and technically he is already better than any other english centre half, I hope we do not have an escape clause, and that we hold on to him for as long as possible as his value is only going to soar.

Striker's are worth more, AJ proven, thats why it was silly money.

At times this season, Cahill has been found wanting, and has been completely ripped apart by very average players.

He has alot to learn, but I agree, he has the potential to be a great player, and has looked genuine class at times.

Me and my dad ware having this conversation over Sunday dinner y'day and a screaming 3 week old.........

anything less than ?9m we agreed would be a scandle!

AJ was so proven that Everton bought and sold him very quickly

He was certainly no qualified success at Goodison

Cahill is worth as much as we wish to sell him for and/or another club is willing to pay for him...who knows what that would be

Simple ..... in that case we keep him till he's capped then.

Or is that not even a possibility given Bolton players rarely get picked for England and the Board like to turn a quick profit (not a criticism, just an observation !).

?6 million is an idiotic figure. We paid ?5 million for him FFS, and now he's got a season and half of Premier League football behind him.

I hope the rumours about an ?8 million release clause in his contract are false, because that's not enough either.

AJ is a decent prem striker. Played about 7 seasons in the prem, that what I mean by proven, and that costs money.

You must keen Cahill, and build a defence around him, and tie him down to a huge contract with daft release clause, or you will get fcuked

by one of the big clubs.

i would imagine there is a release clause and a sell on cluase so that if we got ?8m villa would take massive slice of the profit.

good job sam signed him before the ginger idiot took over.

But lets face it, the only reason he hasnt been capped is that he plays for Bolton.

I'm not usre that's the case, I would say he's not capped because there are around 6 or 7 other English central defenders who are better than him

It was Megson who signed him! Nob

Here fishy, fishy

Cahill is better than Upson so he should be getting a chance in the squad at least imo.

He is not though, you need to prove it, you dont just get given a place in the England because potentially one day he could be better than other players !!!

Everyone can see he has talent, but take your white tinted specs off and really think about it. Have you at all looked defensively solid this season ??? any more than any other year ???

You have not been hard at all to beat this season, easier than I have ever seen you in the prem.

Now, how can a team with such a soft defence even attempt to boast one of the best defenders in the prem !?!?!

Good he may be, class one day he may be.....but now, their are 6 or 7 better English Center backs.

On the other thread, many are trying to link Kevin Davies's good goal return this season to Elmander playing

So maybe in reverse, the fact Cahill has seen his central defensive partner being chopped and changed all season has not helped him settle down to move from a potential England player to an actual one.

We have concided less this year and last year than we did when we finished 8th, 6th 8th and 7th.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Ferdinand go from Leeds to Munich for ?18m when he was at a similar age?

Pablo, you have done very well not to mention so far you think that 2 better defenders are everton players....

the point about cahill for me is that surely it is worth seeing how he looks in the squad, what does capello learn by having upson in a squad?

terry and rio will be first choice centre halves, so noe is arguing cahill should be playing but surely part of the reason for having a squad for friendlies in particular is to have a look at fringe players not always for the actula games but also how they measure up against the very top players.

for cahill it is hard to say how good he is given the players he is supported by.

what would be lost by including him in a squad? jagielka injured, carragher retired, woodgate injury prone, upson see woodgate,

It was Megson who signed him! Nob

I apologise for my use of irony.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Ferdinand go from Leeds to Munich for ?18m when he was at a similar age?

No, he went for ?30 Million !

Wheater can get in that England squad, then why cant Cahill.

Im not saying wheater is a bad player, but Cahill is not worse than him.

As Ani said, the point of friendlies is to possibly try fringe players.
