With what megson has stated about getting more flare into the time and how we have plenty money to spend , think people need to relax abit . He knows most of the fans are on his back . So if he signs nobody of real quality, he might as well resign . Without doubt if his team plays the standard of football we watched last year he will be gone by christmas. He will spend money, he has done it every year.

Exactly what i thought! How the hell can you make a decision about a manager the 2nd week in July? The season is off and most players are just getting back for pre-season

As said above the window has only just opened. At this point in the window it's a sellers market. Most business is done near the end when players/clubs/agent all start to get itchy feet.

 

I think we can only judge him at Christmas on his signings.

Is that the same one who ran their midfield when we played them in April?

Is it really about changing our style of play or just adding a bit of quality in the final half and consolidating what we have? I for one like the passionate, tough tackling part of our squad and wouldn't want to swap that to play like Arsenal. But we do need to become better on the ball as a squad.

 

We did try to play it on the ground on many occasions, in the first part of last season there would be one moment in a game where we would string 15 passes together, rip the opposition defense apart, but fail to put the ball in the back of the net.

 

I think Megson did an interview towards the end of last season saying that he spoke with Eddie Davies. Megson was told that they wouldn't be bullied into paying high fees early on in the transfer windown and would wait until the price came down towards the start of the season. That has a trade off at the player misses pre-season but if the difference is ?millions that can be put to better use then it will be worth it in the eyes of the managment.

 

Megson has admitted that we are short in numbers and has gone about correcting it, if samuel gets injured then we have to sacrifice gardner going forwards, too many times last season was the midfield swapped about due to injury and a lack of numbers, hence Robinson.

 

I wouldn't worry about the lack of quality players coming to the club just yet, assess that when next season kicks off.

Although if anyone is expecting another shot at europe with a change of style then be prepared for disappointment. The top 7 or so will be utd, liverpool, chelsea, arsenal, villa, everton, city, spurs.

Basically, in your little worlds, Megson is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't! Rather than the preconception that we're already doomed, have a go at being a little confident.

OK, we aren't going to go out and win the Premier League. We may not even get a place in Europe, there are now too many bank-rolled clubs all trying to get into the top 4 for that to happen any time soon. But at least we're still playing in the best league in the world. Who'd have thought that 20 years ago? Or even 8 years ago when we beat Preston! We were always favourites to go down but, somehow, defeated the odds. Well we're still doing it. Enjoy!

Why? how much have we paid for him?. Do you not think the three mentioned would improve our team/squad?

We had a ?2.5 million bid turned down,so it would have to be more than that.That is already a generous offer for someone that suffered a serious knee injury and hasn't played in the Premier League.We took a gamble on the fitness of Mark Davies last season and he got injured again after a few games.I forget his name but i'd prefer the lad West Brom signed from Darlington.

 

Zat Knight.Yes,he would improve our team,i have no complaints about that but for the ?3.5 million quoted he should be better than O'Brien and Shittu.Knight has his faults and wouldn't imo have got in several of the Bolton defences that Allardyce created for less cash than that.I hoped our scouting network could have come up with the an Ngotty/Ben Haim/Faye type rather than playing safe on an expensive Villa squad player.

Just like Pompey couldnt wait to get rid of Matt Taylor. Just like Villa couldnt wait to get rid of Cahill. Both werent good enough for their first teams. Why am I bothering responding to such shite, lets just get rid of Megson, put McGinley and McAteer in charge and have done with it.

Times have changed in football players cost a lot more than they used to. There isnt many of the bargain buys like Ben Haim and Faye around any more. ?1 million back then equates to around ?3 million now so thats why these players seem expensive compared to the past.

Agree with you in principle, and those clubs believe they'll be in those positions. But there's many a slip 'tween cup & lip and I'll be surprised if it works out so neatly. Remember the mighty Toon. We can but hope.

Unfortunately I don't think the Massives will go down this season. Like you say, you can but hope.

 

On the base topic, I don't see why we should change our basic style which is to be a physical team that gets in the face of the opposition, especially the soft Arsenals of this world. We may need a bit of variation occasionally, but why throw away our strengths? I don't go with this good football is only played on the ground crap. A good header by the centre forward whether Nat, Wyn Davies, McGinlay, or SKD was/is worth the entrance money itself for me.

 

Successful Bolton teams have always been tough and strong playing direct football. Why change because the southern press don't like it?
