I was on the fence about Megson up until this last week.Now I seriously doubt his capabilities of bringing about a change of style.We can all assume that it's great to be a Wanderer,but is it? We were told that this season we would be a more attractive team to watch.But looking in from the outside we are signing Megsons old boys and a player Pompey could'nt wait to get rid of.All in all it does not instill a lot of confidence in me that Megson can change us into an attacking,entertaining force to be reckoned with.

the signing of Bodde is as concrete as this fast right sided korean player so you can stick him on the right and muamba in the holding role if you want

Personally, I would play McCann instead of Muamba in the holding role. I dont care about his under 21 performances, he was crap for us last season. If Ricardo's fit and plays like he did before his injury he would be first name on my team sheet.

Good to disagree. Apart from the Fulham game where he had a mare, for me McCann was our best midfielder the last few home games. He certainly seemed the only one interested in keeping Hull and Sunderland at bay. Taylor went on his hols after that England talk, Ricardo was injured, Mark D was OK in bits and Muamba was just Muamba.

And there's the whole of the league cursing themselves that their diary said the window opens on July 1st. Damn it. With a better PA we could have had a month more than any other club!

I think the reason why we have so many Anti-Megson fans is down to the way they were all 'spoilt' by the Allardyce era, and have come to expect us being in the top ten and Europe every season since he went.. WRONG. Bolton were, believe it or not, punching above their weight during Allardyce's final season or two, and yes I, like other fans enjoyed the moment with trips to Munich etc, but people need to realise we aren't one of the 'big boys' who can throw cash around like its going out of fashion. We are a premiership side who would settle for 10th to 17th every season, knowing we have another season of Prem football to look forward to. Maybe in a few years when we are more established and bigger players may be attracted to the bright lights of the Reebok may we be able to push on... until then we have to be patient.

 

With one or two exceptions (Jay Jay, Youri etc), I feel we have a far better squad now all round than we have had for a long time - Megson is gradually (yes gradually not in one transfer window) reducing the average age of the squad, injecting more flair, English, and premiership quality into the squad as well as trying to build around his ideas that he wants for this football club.

 

The majority of the players he has brought in have been a positive for the club and have done well, ok there are one or two who have failed, but every manager takes gambles, and at least our haven't cost us that much money..

 

I think Megson is doing a great job so far and people need to realise that and stop jumping on the 'Megson Out' bandwagon and give him their full support !!!

Reading into this South Korean lad Lee Chung-Yong looks like he could do the business and fingers crossed the signing seems to be progressing along with Zat Knight who is better than Shittu/Obrien. Both S Davis and M Davies in the middle are better than most of the central midfield cloggers we already have.

 

So getting back to the original question yes it looks like the players seem to be in place to change our style of football, but time will tell if Megson can get these players to do it for him. Going off the last couple of seasons and watching his decision making at vital times in games, I don?t think he can. Hope I?m wrong!

 

The way city are going/spending Tel Ben, Benjani and Bellamy are there for the taking imo high wages maybe but these are the sort of players who would change our style of football. Not going to happen tho.

I now feel Megson is taking the club forward the players we are strongly linked with remind me of Bolton type players good solid honest profesionals, would be nice to add the likes of a Gudjohnsen to the mix but I would be happy with Knight/Davies/Bodde/Greening type of signings, I see big Sam is hanging about for a marquee signing and has again stated he will be happy with signing just 1 striker, does he think he can snare Anelka again :-) I really feel that Megson is strengthening the squad for the long term whereas Sam is looking for the headline signing, for me that was the root of a lot of problems when Sam left the club.

From the teams starting the 09/10 Premiership season where would bolton be placed in a list of consecutive Premiership seasons without relegation. We would surely be close to the top ten.

Personally I think he can change the style - we've played as we have in the past for one reason only - we didn't happen to have Brazil's starting 11 at our disposal. Battling to get results and going direct is how we got the points for the last 18 months. The fact that our motley bunch of 2009/09 got to 13th in the table is testament that Megson does have a footballing brain and a squad who actually gave a shit, even if it did mean (at times) the worst football since the dark days of divisions 3 or 4.

 

With better players, more options and a sharper edge, there's no reason why we can't climb a little further, although I doubt even the biggest optimist will have us challenging for a Champs League spot for the forseeable future.
