Gary Cahill

reports from last night and today say that everton have signed phillipe senderos from arsenal. hopefully that means that gary cahill if of their 'reputed' radar. also means that everton are likely to cash in on joleon lescott and get about ?20-25m.

i don't care what anyone says, man city are unfortunately very firm contenders for the title as their team consists of this:

Given

Zabaleta, Toure, Lescott (most likely), Bridge

Wright-Phillips, Barry, Ireland, Robinho

Tevez, Adebayor

That first team is more or less top class. To make things worse i can also see them picking up a cup trophy as this is their B team

Taylor

Richards, Onuoha, Dunne, Garrido

Johnson, Kompany, De Jong, Petrov

Santa Cruz, Bellamy

Those 2 teams don't even include players like: Schemichael , Ben Haim, Benjani, Bojinov, Etuhu

I think city have now firmly made it a top 5 and that'll prob mean that it is now 2 less games where megson will try to get bolton points from!

Whilst admittedly they have some quality players, they've firmly made it nowhere right now as the season hasn't started yet.

How will they have a happy squad if as you state they have 2 teams capable of competing?

Although if they get it right, they could become top 4 or 5 it's gonna be a tough year at Citeh methinks....particularly if they don't get a great start.

As for 2 less games for us to get points from - what do we just roll over 'cos they have a few star names?

As it happens the Citeh fans I've spoken to reckon Kompany'll get the nod over De Jong

He is injured at the mo.

its seems that way, though some reckon they prefer him at centreback

City will win fuck all, won't even manage top four, although their deluded followers will expect them to win the CL next season

Until Cahill signs his new contract he may have a release clause (I read in the past its about ?8m) and the club could do jack shit to stop someone taking him.

or you read a pile of shite ....

Spot on. He doesnt have a clause in his contract, if he does it would of been met by now. ?8 million would be a fucking bargain for him.

Gary Megson has revealed that Bolton wiped out an ?8million escape clause in Gary Cahill?s contract when they tied their ?15m-rated central defender to a new three-year deal earlier this month.

Everton and Tottenham were two of four Barclays Premier League clubs to enquire about the 23-year-old.

Megson said: ?I?m ecstatic he?s signed again because there was something in his contract that worried the life out of me.?

8m!!!!!

christ that would have really pissed me off, if he left!

So whats the release clause now 10 :pardon:

Where does it say Megson revealed there was an ?8 million clause? He just says there was something that worrried the life out of him in his contract :pardon:

Exactly! Rag drivel as per.

True - but if it wasn't a 'low' buy-out clause then what could it have possibly been?

Sensible replies only please.

If there was a low buy out cluase, I'm suprised that his agent wouldn't have "let it slip" - especially with Lescott seemingly on his way to City, you would have thought his agent would have announced the figure to the world, in the hope that either Everton, Villa or more recently Spurs (due to their current CB shortage) would have shown an interest.

Generally, if somebody is performing well, it doesn't take long for these figures to be "accidentally leaked" to the press

The ?8m buy-out clause has been mentioned before, I'm sure there's some truth in it. But the market has changed since them, when a club like Everton can turn down ?18m for a defender.

I would guess that clubs do know about players buy out clauses in general.

The thing is though that no matter how highly we rate Cahill, it does not mean other clubs rate him the same - clubs like Arsenal and City who aren't short of transfer funds would rather spend more and get who they want - Vermaelen (Arsenal) - ?11 million, Lescott (to City) - ?18+ million

Other clubs looking for defenders, seem to be more interested in others valued around Cahill's ?8 million buy out mark such as - Everton (Taylor at Newcastle for ?8 million or Senderos at ?6 million), Villa (Distin ?5 million or Dunne also ?5 million). City (Upson ?12 million).

Cahill is going to be one for the very near future - but right now the clubs buying centre backs have players they covert more highly than him.

I think Megson as acted now before another good half season from Cahill had clubs queuing at the door with their cheques made out to the value of ?8 million.

I agree there as, I really hope they don't make top 10, delusional isn't a strong enough word for the Ciddeh masses.
