New Bus Station

Featured Replies

I'd like to see B&M Bargains maintained as part of any scheme :good:

How much is this to do with relocating to create a more compact bus/rail interchange and how much is so that the Moor Lane area is freed up for further large building plans as at the side of the fire station?

From what i can gather

The current bus station is shite and falling down and needs an extensive refurb at the bare minimum. the area around where the bus station is planned has been earmarked for this for a long time (at least 6 years) as well as the PTE building this new bus station the train station is also has a big lump of cash to bring that up to spec.

The last i heard the councils regen department wants to extend and refurb the Market on to the bus station site along with yet another multi story car park

Bolton Bus/Rail Interchange. The only interchange (in it's current form) where the main bus station is about a quarter of a mile away from the railway station!!!!! How many times in the last 20 years have they done the "Interchange" up??

There's noboby coming into Bolton any more, so it's a complete waste of money IMO.

Rant over.

That's why it's moving!

How about this as a plan:

When/if this comes to fruition, haw about GMPTE employ someone to prevent the bus station being used as a toilet/sleeping quarters/doss house/meeting place for down and outs.

i put that on my consultation response too.

bury bus station is just as bad.

Shudehill and piccadilly seem to have security to usher them away.

I know that Frank. But that "interchange" at the top of Newport St has been there for at least 15years, that I can remember.

that's staying and they're moving the main bus station over.

The layout reminds me of Chorley bus station which is actually OK.

One centralised area where people wait rather than stands as "islands" as currently at Moor Lane. So should be easier to police.

Back to B&M. WTF is going to happen to Rice and Three?

Bring back the footbridge between johnson Street and Trinity street.

looks alright.. Anything that improves the embarrassing walk from the train station to the town centre has got to be a good thing.. ( Bolton council in positive move shocker).. All we need now is a greenhouse on newport street!

Can we have a budgie cage in it Frank, you know like the Arndale had ? Diddledee would be made up after

matches :good:

This is where the 'Gateway Into Bolton' comes into its own, now it can be called that ...

This would be excellent provided the tramp dwellers are kept well away.

Chorleys station is nice as far as bus stations go.

Combine it with a new train station and you have a very good modern hub.

Bit of flattenening and get a new stadium on moor lane land!!!

A new stadium, without tramps?!

More chance of winning the lottery for sure

what is a bus ?

That's why it's moving!

Are they moving the bus station from behind Newport St then? You'll be telling me they're planning on stopping the buses turning round in front of the town hall next.

It is broke!

The bus station is falling apart and is a hot spot for hobo's and wierdo's.

A brand new facility is the only way this will be fixed and the best place for it is by the train station.

It still stands although it does look like the inside of an arsehole maybe a lick of paint and a hose to rid of the idiots.

They only did up the roads inside the bus station about 18 months ago so why bother doing that in the first place if your going to fuck the bus stop off now.

twas a good while longer than 18 months ago IIRC.

and the station won't close for a few years until the new one is built (2014 they're aiming to have it open).

the layout of the current bus station means most of it is unused after 7 and get full of scrotes and not rights who not only make the place a no go zone, damage to the facilities must cost the PTE a fortune in maintainance.

but fuck next time i see someone from GMPTE i'll tell em to send the money for the bus station back to central government and they can spend yet more money on London.

The plans look quite good to me. Can't help think though that Bolton are missing a trick here whereby you could combine the train and bus stations fully. The bus station is a dump so I can understand making a new one and moving it near the train station but could they not build a fully integrated interchange rather than putting it next to the shitty rail station and adding a walkway? No doubt that walkway will attract loads of scrotes too?

I didnt think it was that long ago and I dont oppose to improving the town but anytime money is spent its usually wasted ala that stupid footbridge or anything that would be an improvement takes alot longer than it should therefore being a massive inconvenience to everybody.
