Casino Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 it often,as with other "derogatory" terms, depends on the context in which it's used, just to call someone a fenian because they're Irish/Catholic can be insulting and not a true definition of the word in some cases, however, anyone who had republican sympathies, violent or otherwise, could rightly be described as a fenian, in the terms the word has come to represent. just as calling anyone protestant "an orange bastard", calling anyone catholic "fenian bastard" is inaccurate and could be insulting. thanks for this so, cure probably isn't a million miles off when he uses fenian to describe a band knocking out songs about how great it is 'back home' looks to me that wanderer123, the plastic irishman is just looking for a row again
Spider Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 As usual This has descended into certain parties using an age old and unsettleable argument to cover themselves in a fucked of type of glory. My Northern Irish Grandad used to march and my Mum still has all his orange gear. However, in my heart I find the whole thing simply fucking tiresome. We've put men on the moon and invented machines that will let me watch porn, instantly and on demand yet some of our species still get a kick out of getting involved in a situation that has fuck all to do with them anyway. Why? I have a vague opinion on Israel/Palestine but it's no more relevant than my thoughts on birthday cakes. I certainly wouldn't start being a twat online and making out it was my "cause". Fucking wankers, some folk.
