As I would expect (enforce, encourage, etc) any Englishman living abroad to learn the local lingo. So in your brave new world I would be forced to learn Arabic and a few years ago would have been forced to learn Cantonese..... Errrrrr why?

Not meaning to sound like a wozzername to either side here, but there are some people living in foreign countries who have difficulty with languages in general. Me for one. I still struggle at times with hebrew. It's not easy for most to click with another language. But I do agree that it should be encouraged. But have some sympathy for those who just "don't get it".

This is all about making a distinction between what the EDL says publicly and what 90% of their followers actually believe. When people like me go 'oooh, not sure I like the EDL,' it's not because their spokesman comes on the wireless saying he doesn't want shariah in the UK or thinks that to date we've been too soft of the likes of that hook handed cunt. It's because their supporters are primarily racists who are out for a brawl and who feel the need to cover their faces up with St George cross hankies and needlessly invade town centres like Bolton where Islamic fundamentalism just isn't an issue. It's not just brew cabins either who'd agree with the EDL's anti-fundamentalist message, it's all workplaces. The difference is that most folk don't like the way the EDL goes about things, they don't like the faces being covered up, the football association, the keep St George in my heart/no surrender horseshit. Similarly, the BNP have some reasonable things to say too, but decent people don't like the fact that out and out racists are attracted to it in large numbers, their leader is on the record as a holocaust denier and that it was born out of Combat 18. All nationalistic/flag waving/immigration sceptical parties in the UK's history have suffered from the same ailment - an extreme right wing fetish it can't help itself from indulging in. This is because without that extreme element in their ranks, they'd be nothing, and wouldn't be able to put anyone on the streets. And the ordinary bod, whether in a brew cabin, on a farm, in an office or wherever, doesn't like that same extreme element that these movements rely on and can;t aford to shelve. Until we get a party that very publicly opposes Islamic fundamentalism but doesn't appeal to far right meatheads, we're stuck with the current state of affairs I'm afraid.

I'd take your opinion on what is being done more than any man I know, but that does not mean the opinions of Joe Public who marches with the EDL are lesser than yours. I received this e-mail from a lad who has returned to England and is currently re leading the roof of Buckingham Palace (don't think he e-mailed me from there!) No doubt the left leaners will dismiss it as sensationalist bullsh1t, the right leaners will agree and the 40% too apathetic to vote will quickly jump to a critical 'What's for dinner?' thread. Depends how long you were living there. Guess you were there with work which is a separate matter entirely. I'd find it a great challenge and highly exciting and a moral obligation to learn the local lingo. There's stacks of English folk living out in Spain who probably cannot be arsed to learn the language - and I find that shoddy to be honest. With regards to immigrants who are residing in the UK - these people have come here to live and breed and should learn the language. And if free lessons means we can cut back on the spending that each & every council does on printed literature (which has to be produced in umpteen different languages - ask FS and BB, our council is p1ssing ?????s up the wall) - then so be. Maybe its like a student loan where they pay for the lessons once they are fully working. Dunno.

It is your ilk/party which has helped the UK to reach the situation it is now in. Yes, I am entitled to vote in UK elections but I don't exercise the option.
