It's something you hear year in, year out. People presume that footballers try "harder" in the last year of their contract in order to win another. Do these people think that players don't bother for the first 2/3/4 years and then really, really, really try hard for the last year.

Personally I think all players should be paid per game. We'd then have the entertainment of transfer runaround between 9am Monday and 5pm Friday.
