Ali Al Habsi Joining Wigan Today

Just seen on SSN that he's having a medical and will join them today.

Shame as I feel he has been underused whilst hes been here. He's been very loyal to stay for so long. Good keeper and he'll do well for the pie-eaters.

Wonder who we can get as an experienced back up - don't think Bogdan is ready yet (please no carlo nash!!)

Phew. So glad he's out on loan only. Ali has massive potential. He commands his area unlike Jussi. One for future.

Imagine if going into the last game of the season, it was out of Bolton and Wigan who got relegated and Al Habsi saves a penalty in the last minute for Wigan that sends his own team down.

I suspect this is a loan in name only alla Paul Robinson bit of a strange one for Al Habsi as he is basically moving from Jussi's shadow to step in to Kirklands shadow albeit Kirkland is a sick note so he's a decent chance of playing even if it is for them pie eating no marks - from our side I suspect it's a "wheeler dealer" type deal we keep getting told coyle is having to do, to clear some salary and a smallish fee now and later when he "signs" full time so that coyle can get priority positions filled - worrying slightly though if this is a sign he's struggling to move some of the dead wood from the outfield squad which might be the case - I've no idea on bogdan but hope he's as good as folk say on here Barber is no mug so no worries but we'll need some experienced cheap cover though surely.

Agree with being happy its only on loan, im presuming there will be a clause where he cannot play against us

not sure about "one for the future" as he'll be 29 by the time he gets back to us, so he's hardly a spring chicken. I know keepers can easily go on into their mid to late thirties, but generally they have played quite a few games before their late twenties, unlike Al Habsi. There is no guarantee he'll get much game time at Wigan, as Kirkland is rated highly (although is poorly sick a lot of the time)

Why do I get a bad feeling it's written in the stars for Jussi to get injured now.

Big ginge to save the day in that case

because you're a pessimist?

My mates just text me and said "Bogden must be one of the English players we need in the squad that's why he's No2 this season" felt like texting back saying He's Hungarian you thick fucking not right.

You don't think Coyle's that stupid do you, there'll be a clause in the load deal saying we can recall at any time.

But he'll count as a home grown player as he came through the academy.

No I spoke to him after I posted that and it and he did think Bogden was English. I must admit though even I'm confused about this new system now I didn't realise it worked like that. So how late can a player join the academy from abroad and still be classed as home-grown? can they join at 15 and be fielded at 16 as home grown?

It's 3 years at a club in England before the age of 21 according to the Pl website

Cheers frank a little clearer now although after reading that I don't see how its going to improve things for English talent coming through which I always believed was the point in doing it.

think that is defiantely a really good move by owen coyle. we still keep him to us but hopefully he'll get some much needed game time and more prem experience for when (hopefully) he will come to replace jussi as no.1 in a few years time

This affair is identical to the situation with Man City and Joe Hart. Al Habsi will get a season long Premiership experience and return to Bolton when Jussi decides to call it a day.

Here's my prediction. If he does get some first team action with that lot then I reckon we'll see him for what he is. A good keeper but no better than what we've got playing for us at the moment.

A nice slice of Andranik syndrome then?

There might not be, City didn't have one in their loan deal of Hart to Birmingham last year. I would have thought that Wigan wouldn't want the clause in, becuase they won't wont leaving high and dry should Kirkland be injured at the same time

I'd imagine this would be one of the reasons a clause would be in there, we all saw what happened to city last season and lets be honest as good as he's being made to seem no one wants to go to old Trafford with the ginger ninja in goal.

he needs to get his work permit renewed and as theyre not in the top 75 it won't be plain sailing
