Ali Al Habsi Joining Wigan Today

Just seen on SSN that he's having a medical and will join them today.

Shame as I feel he has been underused whilst hes been here. He's been very loyal to stay for so long. Good keeper and he'll do well for the pie-eaters.

Wonder who we can get as an experienced back up - don't think Bogdan is ready yet (please no carlo nash!!)

from what Ive heard Coyle asked Barber and Jussi(as they've worked day in day out with both Ali and Adam for the last 3 years) who's ahead with development and prospects and Bogdan has been chosen as number 2, that with Ali wanted first team football. I know that Jussi thinks Bogdan will go onto to be a belting keeper and is still young.

I thought it was strange he wasn't involved in the friendly yesterday.

We're still gonna need another keeper to replace Habsi. It wont be Brian Jenson... Surely not

Anyway, good luck to Habsi, not as good as Jussi (Not many are) but he's still a very good keeper, shame he's joining up with that nob Dave Whelan...

Ali Al Habsi was immense in Munich and any other keeper than Jussi in front of him and he'd be our number 1 , but Bogdan is prepared to learn and wait for Jussi so think we got a corker waiting in the wings.

I'm guessing Bogdan will step up to 2nd keeper now.

Will Al Habsi be number one choice at Wigan, or will he only play when Kirkland is injured (which is a lot of the time)?

As well as Kirckland Wigan also had 2 keepers who were 1st choice for their respective nations at the world cup.

The season we'd stayed up after Lee and Megson got here, I put that down to Jussi's injury and Al Habsi being superb for the last quarter of the season.

Sorry to see the lad go - thought he'd take over from Jussi.

sad to see him go, best of luck to the lad.

thanks for the munich game ali

Very sorry to see him go. Always looked in great shape when he came into the side and never let the team down. Seemed a good bloke off it as well as he often seemed to be involved with Wanderers Community work. Bogdan must be one hell of a prospect if what I'm reading is true? Good luck Ali.

even if bogdan is now our number 2 we still need a third goalie as every club does. some like jussi (obv nowhere near as good), but someone with experience like we had with ian walker (but hopefully better)

jussi had a poor season by his standards last, personally i would have dropped him.cant believe we are letting him go as bogdan is not ready.never let us down,is jussi frightened of a little competition?wont get another one as good as ali for nowt, should have been given another run in first team imo.

any price on this deal.

i hope bogdan is up to the job.

Word is that it is only for a 12 month loan deal and not a free transfer as Sky are reporting.

Why

Season long loan.. :yahoo:

Any idea how long's left on his contract?

a season long loan if his contract is up at the end of the season is no better than a free transfer.

hes contracted till 2013.

does anyone know if we can call him back at anytime? and can play against us?

a season long loan is a great deal, if he gets games for them and they don't finish above us

then the following season, he should be ready for the step up

jensen as jussis understudy and we're sorted

If he's loaned, then he won't be able to play against us

It will be

Glad he's only gone out on loan! Would have been pretty gutted if he had gone, especially to Wigan! Good Prospect for the future this lad. I just hope he bides his time for when Jussi hangs his boots up/loses form.
