I went watching Chadderton v Leigh the other week, the south side of Boundary Park has changed so much since the last time i went. Chaddy Arms is shut, the Cross Keys pub has vanished under a retail park. I had to make do with cans of lager during the match.

i know you're bright enough to realise that but there'll be plenty getting the bedsheets out as we type

just got back from oldham after watching a pretty poor performance, but i think it was more of a run out to try new things than anything else.

knight had a mare, petrov looks a lot more dangerous on the left than he does the right, muamba was all over the place and elmander needs his thumbs chopping off. the amount of time he has his thumb up to another player he looks like a friggin window licker.

 

and im sure i spotted diddles, if not theres two of them.

 

hope people dont read too much into that game.

Shit pre season = good season. Hope we get stuffed by the porridge wogs.

It's pre-season - nothing to get too heated about.

But it maybe does emphasise that (for whatever reason) OC hasn't yet addressed the main problems that were identified a long long time back - except maybe left-back.

I'm glad of a defeat in a way. A great pre-season doesn't usually mean much once the season starts, and it might temove any sense of complacency at the Reebok.

Bet I enjoyed the match at Curzon Ashton last night more than any Whites fans enjoyed Oldham tonight.

Pre season games should be used primarily for gaining fitness. Secondly, they should be used for new players to gel and understand their new team mates. And thirdly they should be used to develop formations and think about what our first 11 should be come the first game of the season. Pre season games should show evidence of moves worked on in training, plans of passing and movement and general attacking ideas.

Tonight we lost 3-0 to oldham. Had roughly five shots on target. And strung at maximum 4 passes together in a move. Anyone who went tonight will have seen that we where awful. I would understand if we had played a team that was made up of new players and reserves but tonights starting 11 could easily start against Fulham. Only two new players started in that 11, and im counting J. o'brien as a new player in that, seeing as he hasnt played in 2 years. And it was if theyd never seen each other before.

What we have learned from tonight in regards formation, struction and how we want to play in the premiership is this...

* starting with obrein as the holding player and muamba ahead of him didnt work. muamba constantly lost the ball when in possession near the box. Muamba as a holding midfielder is fine, but beyond that and having someone behind him, and hes lost.

* if we play direct towards davies and have taylor and petrov on the wings it is a waste of time. Petrov hugs the touchline and is therefore too far away from davies to get on to a flick on, and taylor is too slow to get anywhere near his flick ons.

* robinson and taylor still dont gel as a left hand side. Taylor would be a fantastic player if he has someone bombing on infront of him and overlapping, but robinson never strays beyond the half way line. Countless times, robinson would get the ball, deliver a terrible pass to taylor, he would struggle to control it, then we'd lose possession and that would be the end of it.

* on the other side, ricketts had a poor game,fans sang for steinsson and hunt, he was substituted, steinsson came on, didnt do anything different

* mark davies came on and showed glimpses of attacking, good skill and looked lively, but is obviously too lightweight to play in a 442 which we played in the second half when he came on.

* holden couldnt get in the game and was subbed at half time

* elmander was constantly booed / moaned at fans. God help him when we are away at wigan or blackburn and theres more than 200 of us. Service to him was non existent and him and davies together in a 442 just doesnt work. It still amazes me when davies and him talk together about where each other should be and point at each other when the move breaks down. Theyve been together for 2 years now and should be able to read each other.

 

Hopefully the season will start and all of this will not have mattered, but even the most optimistic fan couldnt help but be worried from tonights showing. Anyways thats my opinion of tonight.

I doubt that we will start against Fulham like that, maybe Coyle is using the friendlies as an opportunity for Muamba to concentrate on the weaker side of his game.

This was blindingly obvious when mccann used to play in the middle with muamba

Needs to realise quikcly 4 4 2 with Davies and Elmander is not the answer. Unless we sign another forward get playing 4 5 1. Pointless playing elmander, just got to accept hes not up to it in this country

after last night i'd play blake over elmander with davies.

 

blaked dropped deep wanted the ball to feet, and played some nice balls through to petrov. and then looked to get back in the area.

 

elmander needs to be a poacher in front of goal pickin up on loose balls rather than trying to do the uscle work of recieving the ball with back to goal and trying to hold it up because he clearly isnt up to it.

I went to it and it was an absolutely dire performance. At one stage Oldham strung about 30 passes together without us touching the ball. Can understand Arsenal, but Oldham!! WTF.
