As stated by somebody above, we'll never really know how much the players are on, and even if we did know, would it matter, is it even remotoely interesting?

 

I agree with you here, they are paid what they are worth to the club, it is nothing to do with us [fans] how much money players earn, FFS I don't even tell my missus how much I earn

I do know for a fact that lots of players these days take a chunk of wages as image rights paid to their company thus avoiding 50% income tax rates....i know this having worked for a client that lost ?35k when pompey went under and reading the various creditor reports, from reading them i'd say the posts about our lesser players salaries are on the low side pompeys post admin budgets although not totally transparent looked as though they were looking to have a squad of 20 ish players on about ?8-10k a week in the championship - no comparison to us really but gives the discussion some context.

I was surprised to see in the aftermath of that prostitute mishap that 50% of Wayne Ronney's income from Man Utd was image rights. However it is 100% ITK fact that half of the image rights cash is paid to Dreamworks Animation for use of the Shrek likeness.

McCann told my mate he was on ?33k a week, he was getting many a comp off him so I have no reason to not to believe him, to put it in perspective McCann's best mate Jamie Milligan is picking up ?1200 a week (part-time) at AFC Fylde in the same league as chorley (some rich backer) he was getting the same at Fleetwood before they got promoted.

 

IMO Sam Ricketts is prob picking up ?20 - ?25k a week. I would have thought he would have paid more for a wedding mind. I suppose after tax you can half that (?10k a week = ?500k a year), probably have a shit load of expences like large mortgages and expensive cars. Most sensible pros will be investing for there future as many struggle to earn after they finish playing. I know many of them take out private insurance policies to cover them incase there career is cut short through injury, i bet this does not come cheap.
