April 7, 201115 yr The reserves have been impressive of late so who do you reckon will be in the first team next year? I think ward eaves blakeman and Connoly with vela Riley and o'halloran not far behind
April 7, 201115 yr You've named 7 players. There's no way that many will get in from the reserves in 5 seasons, never mind next season.
April 8, 201115 yr Not a bad point that Murphy, Its time to start chucking them in gradually and give them a chance. I'd like to see one or two step up.
April 8, 201115 yr Throwing that many in at once would be catastrophic, even if they're decent players it's a huuuuuge learning curve If we can pull 1-2 through a year to compete for a spot I'd say that would be a tremendous success

They never coped! 2002
April 8, 201115 yr it's a huuuuuge learning curve Don't you put them on as sub at the end of a game that you are winning, then give them a Cup start? It's not about starting them from day 1 but giving them experience gradually. Even some fresh legs to play out the end of away games this season might have got us a few more points. We can't afford to bring in the Blakes of this world to fill the bench in the future.
April 8, 201115 yr How much do you think Blake actually earns? I'd guess in the region of 5k a week plus appearance bonuses. He's exactly the sort of player we CAN afford because anyone in the reserves who is any good will fuck off elsewhere, Kyle Bartley for example.
April 8, 201115 yr How much do you think Blake actually earns? I have as little idea as you. But as you seem into uninformed guessing, I would say about 3 times what you can get a good young Championship player for.
April 8, 201115 yr Good young Championship players go for top dollar. And that isn't uninformed guessing.
April 8, 201115 yr Fulham away, first game of the season, when BSA put 2 EXPERIENCED football players; Okocha and Mendy; into the first team? They never coped! 2002 That was a cracking day out We looked brilliant.....for 5 minutes
April 8, 201115 yr sorry if i sound negative but lets say im being more realistic. I wouldnt be surpised to see 2 of the 'young guns' in carling cup action next season. That would be deemed a success. Without sounding unfair to the players who do have potential, A step from the reserves be loaned to a lower division club is usualy the player development method rarther banged straight into the first team.
April 8, 201115 yr As for Robbie Blake, his experience around the younger players in the squad is a huge reason why coyle brought him im

April 8, 201115 yr Author I never said starting but training with the first team going on pre season tours playing carling cup games and going out on loan would all be great for their experience and tbh ward will be in the first team next year the others will be sniffing around.
April 8, 201115 yr if them lot play 20 games - combined - for us in the next 3 years, i'll be very surprised
April 8, 201115 yr I never said starting but training with the first team going on pre season tours playing carling cup games and going out on loan would all be great for their experience and tbh ward will be in the first team next year the others will be sniffing around. You may not have used the exact word 'Starting' but you also never used the words 'training with' either. The reserves have been impressive of late so who do you reckon will be in the first team next year? I think ward eaves blakeman and Connoly with vela Riley and o'halloran not far behind In fact, I'd say given a choice of meanings; starting in the first team or training with the first team; I'd be pretty convinced your original post in this thread pertained to the former rather than the latter. April 8, 201115 yr It's been disappointing to note that only Nolan and Hunt have come through the ranks and been first team regulars in the last 15 years. What's interesting is how many leave the club and do well in the lower reaches? Being an established Premier team, you can understand why there's not an abundance of first team players plucked from the reserves (though Villa, City, Everton don't have a problem) but you'd expect fringe players to do well in League 1 or 2. I remember a lad called Sinclair, played a couple of first team games about 5 years back, he got released but where is he? Same goes for that black lad who played up front about 3 yrs back, looked promising. Do the Academy coaches have a real eye for talent? We have excellent facilities but find it hard to unearth a rough diamond. Surely there's better prospects at BWFC than our neighbouring rivals?
April 8, 201115 yr Author I think Sinclair is in college or in a lower team I read about it a couple a months ago and are you on about obedeyi he's still in reserves but will probs be released at the end of the season
