Great Britain Olympic Team

Featured Replies

The English FA have seemingly agreed with the British Olympic Authority that Under 21 year old players players from England, Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland would play as part of a Great Britain Olympic team in next years London games.

The only thing is that nobody bothered to consult Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland about it before releasing the statement to the press. All three associations want nothing to do with it, leaving the BOA and the english FA looking like twats.

Typical English FA arrogance.

Ok I know what's coming with the comments that there would be no Scots Welsh or Irish players in it anyway but that's not the point.

Not true, Gareth Bale will be in it as he wants to play and Aaron Ramsey will probably get in as well

The Scottish, Welsh and Norn Iron FA can ignore it all they want, if their players want to play, they will

They can't without the authorisation of their national association

Is it u21 only?

Is it u21 only?

U23 with 3 "over aged" players - I presume that Beckham will be one of these...

All jocks are cunts

They can't without the authorisation of their national association

This was taloked about on 5-Live earlier this evening, apparently the national associations are not in a position to stop anybody playing - although they may end up upsetting their national FA which could mean they aren't picked again......although if they are any good, they'll be picked again I'm sure

The BOA says Olympic selection criteria must be non-discriminatory, and that the English FA is therefore mandated to pick any player they chose. It will then be up to any players who may be selected from the other home nations to decide if they want to take part, mindful of the determined opposition from their own associations

Both, of course.

Aye [see I'm typing like Jazza] you're reet :drinks:

In all seriousness, besides Ramsey and Bale, can you think of anyone from the other countries who would make the team? FFS, don't say Craig Gordon!

England + 2.

I fucking hope not, I am sure there are many over 23 players that are better options than Beckham so why pick him just to put some kind of bullshit celebrity spin on it.

I fucking hate that glorified sports day anyway and wish the frogs had got it.

PS. Jocks are indeed cunts.

I can't see a problem unless FIFA act on the precedence and make the home nations enter a united GB team into their competitions.

Can't see that happening unless we have a big fall out with them....

I think that's what the Scots and the Welsh are afraid of, even though FIFA have already come out and said they wouldn;t enforce this.

The Welsh came out MONTHS ago and said it would not allow any Welsh players play for a GB team. That's fucking ridiculous of them and just like the Scots, smacks of them having an enourmous chip on their shoulders.

Lets face it, the likes of Bale and Ramsay are unlikely to ever feature in a major international tournament (just like Giggs never did) so to deprive them of this chance is scandalous. The Scots are probably not playing ball because they've not got anyone good enough.

In all seriousness though, it's not often the home nations can all join together and support the same cause. Here is the one chance for national rivalries to be put aside, just for a short time, yet the Scottish and Welsh FA are doing their best to ruin it. Shame on them.

Wankers.

yes if Wales actually qualified for summat Giggs would have to put his knob away hence they fecked up every time
