brother of one of my lads.

computer programmer.

40k basic. i think the average is just above 30k in th northwest?

40 days holiday a year

flexi time

double time outside 9-5

today he got set a task, time allocation was 9 hours.

he did it in 25 mins.

spent rest of the day in the pub, and about to get double time for the final hour and half of the day.

he says most of his tasks are like this, he rarely uses 50% of the allocated time.

obviously logs the full amount.

if he goes over, then he can do overtime and get paid to finish.

guess who his employer is?

When I see a van with Bolton Family on, I do want to use white paint excessively on it. Mayber it's just me who thinks it's utter wasted bollocks.

30k base an average for a programmer in the NW?

Don't think so Homo

Obviously depends on the skill and level of experience but he average is higher

Aye, I doubt there's anyone on under 30k in our office.

quick look on cw,

ok, anything between 20k and 40k.

i make that a 30k average. i said just above anyway. probably around the 32k.

im not about to run an analysis.

i know for a fact, i aint payin no cunt 40k to write a bit of c#

and i certainly aint giving him a huge allocation of time to complete, then double time on top of that if he doesnt.

tis a shame on the lad really, because fom what ive heard, he is a very good programmer, but its too easy to sit around getting paid.

if he worked the private sector, his ability would hopefully be acknowledged and he'd move up and up.

but working as he is, his manager has no idea how good he is or how good he could be!

id offer him a job, but theres no way i could compete with his current deal, and could he cope with a proper workload?

Edited by HomerJay

Very much a bit by the sound of it. I'd not be paying him to sit in a pub all day either!

20-40??

I know plenty of programmers on 50-60 in the NW doing C#

Some grad roles pay 25 for a start

good on them.

surley, they are senior roles?

hate for them to get made redundant though.

Edited by HomerJay

I can do it!!!

I just haven't got any training or qualifications

I taught myself what I know.

good on them.

Why homo? They'd have their choice of jobs

C# in the NW, nay in the country, is in demand

Still a massive skills shortage

Trust me on this one

Missed a trick not being arsed in my computing classes for college I think. One of the very few jobs where you can earn top dollar from anywhere. If I had my time again I'd perhaps be in some cheap as chips country in the Orient living like a king I reckon.

I advertised for an it support job this year and I had at least 100 developers apply because the couldn't get a development job.

I had put in the advert "opportunity to move into development" which obviously was a factor.

I ended up taking on a guy who was dev manager at a large firm on 38k He now runs my support team on 23k plus benefits.

Choice of jobs? Really?

Yep Homo really

Fuck knows about your man but I could give countless examples as it's what my lot do all day every day

why do the banks and financial software houses in london have to import all their developers then :nea:
