got there at 7ish till about 10.30 was good had a good sup and chat to FESTER :good:

Respect to the poster who was well refreshed at the festival on Friday and woke up with a kebab in his bed the following morning. They still made it to the boozer in Wigan by 12 =D>

I think those like myself that prefere real ale should try the Wetherspoons festival currently on. There are different ales on every day. If anyone sees the Stone San Diego IPA try it, it`s absolutly superb. Others to sample are the tracle toffee ale and the Pendle porter.

The thing is now as beer swiller says, real ale is more available now so I'm not as inclined to join the hordes.

We couldn't get into Atherton last year as we couldn't see the end of the queue.

It seems these events are mobbed out with folk who don't normally drink real ale, but see it as a showpiece event not to be missed.

Have you ever thought of becoming a beer and wine expert. The way you describe the immense flavours as you sip each thirst quenching mouth full. I look forwards to your next descriptive tome.

Handy hint for any beer festival virgins...

Once you've paid your entrance, you;ll get your wristband and a choice of a pint pot, or half pint. Obviously get yourself a pint pot.

However, when you get your drinks only ever ask for a half. You'll pretty much always get about 3/4 of a pint.

Dazbobparr, stealing off local charities for years.

There was no mileage in that this year.

Worked for me, and flirting with a specific girl behind the pump made sure I was on for a good 3/4 of a pint each time!

Enjoyed it!

Ditto in the generous 3/4 when asking for a half, the closer it came to chucking out they were more like a full pint. Although sight may have been a bit blurred at that point!

This from a can or do you scrat and press?

unfortunately from a can but add my own stewed fruit to it to give it more flavour and strength

Fair play. Found a good contact for apples so had to go a bit industrial this year, with 50 litre pressure barrel fermenting off a 7.5%ABV start point.

Bring on the yokel moonshine gags, but it beats thinking Strongbow is cider

i've got apple trees in the back garden

could i use them?

Me & a few mates are on our 3rd year brewing our own cider. We've got 100 litres on the go at the moment. One of the lads has a few apple trees in his back garden & we just go out collecting anymore apples if we need them. It usually turns out about 7%ish.

Almost definitely, but you would need fair few apples to make it worthwhile.

As a measure four of the fruit boxes you see in super market would get you around six gallons.

Depends if you are prepared for the effort of scratting (pulping) and pressing.

I use an old wood chipper to scrat the apples which does them as fast as I can feed them in.

Proper presses are expensive, but mine is made from unistrut, industrial plastic and a bottle jack.
