I was unfortunate enough to miss the game at Wiggin last week, seeing MOTD and reading the papers, i gather the said Mr Eagles had a blinder?

 

Now from what i have seen up to now in his(albeit short) stay with us, i have been a little (lot) unimpressed.

 

Today against a team struggling a little like ourselves a good pitch, in front of an expectant crowd , presents itself an opportunity for a "winger" to "come of age".

But at this level he is neither strong or consistent enough

 

He's like the championship player that has a great game every so often like David Lee and looks great on highlight reels, but he is never effective enough consistently enough for a team at our level....same goes for Petrov on that front; world beater 1 out of 10 and ineffective in 9 is much worse than a Consistent performer 8 times out of 10....remember Matt Taylor the muppets were so glad to see the back of??

 

To be fair though Today OC has played a stinker switching the wide men so they cut in against a packed midfield; in short he mad Eagles' job very difficult

Eagles was always going to struggle to win large portions of our fanbase over, purely because he's ex-Munisch & ex-Dingle.

 

He hasn't covered himself in glory, but who has?

 

He's not the worst player in our team, he's not even our worst midfielder in the team.

Given recent performances, I'm inclined to agree.

 

But that, and the calling for the return of Muamba, speaks volumes for what a sh*te position we're in.

The point i'm making is that you get what you pay for in football.That's why the huge spending clubs are always at the top of the league.

Sunderland are another club that have spent much more money than Bolton in recent seasons.Not enough to get anywhere near the Champions League clubs but much more than Bolton.Consequently they have better players and a better team.

 

As a general rule, your point is valid : clubs who can consistently spend more money on players will usually end up with stronger more successful teams.

 

As a specific point about Eagles, I can't agree. Players like Charlie Adam came into the Prem for little money from a lower level and performed well & consistently. We could reasonably expect more from Eagles, despite his not-that-low fee and his Championship provenance.

 

This is not to pick on Eagles. Several other players are under-performing as badly, as are OC and his staff in preparing the players for matches.

Eagles' problem is that he is inconsistent. He was bought to play on the left and provide competition for Petrov. Unfortunately Chungy broke his leg and as a result Eagles has to operate on the right. His strength is cutting in from the left wing which is why he had a good game yesterday.
