I like the poll what our resident seasider has put up, but what do you think of todays music ? I loved the punk scene after loads of dull gigs in the mid 70s, same with rave/house/trance in the 90s. But nothing whats coming out now appeals to me. You would think with a depression some new sound would hit the airwaves.

haven't listened to music on the car radio in a few years usually have talksport on the wireless this days, past it at 28.

I vary what I listen to at work these days, we had 6 music on other week, which was good as it was a vareity of stuff, lads on shop floor love Key 103 and radio 1 and captital.

 

I prefer radio 4 extra for comedy and drama, talksport too not the breakfast show.

 

 

Music wise im quite blinkered to house for a genre that id listen to mostly. Although im getting more into the tunes where house came from.

Solar radio for me.

 

I'm a bit blinkered too I think. Or rather, I knows what I likes.

There's loads of fantastic music coming out at the moment, you just have to go outside the mainstream as that's taken up by cowell and his cronies.

I cant go a day without listerning to music,i have to have some sounds in my ears, Its only XFM what i get my rocks off now, but its the same records over and over again. I dont want to end up like my mam and dad listening R2.

I went seeing Jill Scott with a friend a couple of weeks back. Jill sang a song which I had strong memories for me.

I'm stood in the at the front of the Apollo with tears rolling down my cheeks, staring at the stage. My mate just smiled and nodded at me when the song finished.

Yes, it's a strong medium.

Having Youtube on your telly is a great help when your radio spurns out bilge, the point is, i want to hear a brand new sound for this decade.

I was always of the view that the music of the 'yoof' should be something that 'adults', in the main, should hate: jazz, rock 'n' roll, northern soul/'mod', heavy metal, punk, house/'rave' etc. probably all invoked the time honoured demand from parents to:

 

"turn that bloody rubbish down!"

 

When I hear the shite that a lot of the 'yoof' are listening to though

Wanky Happy Hardcore type crap, most of this 'grime' type of stuff - to me it's shite.

Am I just becoming an owd fucker who doesn't 'get' it? Nah, it's definitely shite...

With music of one's own choice available at any time, anywhere, it's unlikely that we'll ever see such mass music in any particular direction in the future.

It's an age thing i think.If you're 13 - 24 years old now you probably think there's loads of good stuff around.

I think it's true what someone said earlier - the music you listen to from 13 to 24 years old, is usually the music you prefer for the rest of your life.

Downloaded 'Mothers Milk' by the Chili Peppers the other week. Had it on twice in the car today steaming up the motorway. Crazy how you remember the tunes like you'd heard them just yesterday. Must've been over 20 years since I last heard it. Forgot how good it was.

 

Loads of similar instances for me - and many of you I guess.

 

There's loads of good stuff still coming out. But not sure where the next 'Appetite for Destruction' or 'Stone Roses' is coming from.
