Time will tell how good Davies actually is. I don't agree that he is overrated (many times on this forum people have complained variously no end product, doesn't track back, always passes sideways etc

As were WBA according to the article.

Whilst reading the Bolton News, I note that Coyle says "We'll get it right."

He must be fucking off then!

He also says, "We need to get players on the park who are capable of winning games."

Well, no shit sherlock!

Josh Vela has signed a 3 1/2 year deal. So at least the younger lads are getting signed up.

First part about Sammy Lee: Sammy Lee has a rich history with Wanderers.

Now I'm all for word games but poor would be a better word than rich when talking about Sammy Lee. He will always be remembered for the bloke who saw positives in every defeat. (Sound familiar?)

Lee got paid 3yrs managers salary for 11 games in charge: I call that a rich history.

No suprise he could be a top top player, the vultures are circling ready for relegation.

I like him, you can see has bags of class, just his lack of speed and injury record stopping him already being at a top club.

We have a player identical.

speed? he goes past players for fun. ok hes not linford christie, but he's certainly not slow

injury record? 74 games in 2 and half seasons aint bad. he had an injury when he came, but apart from that he's been fine from what i can remember.

his problems are that he needs to be more ascertive going foward, he needs to score more goals and he needs to learn to play in 2 man midfield.

but those problems are why he plays for bolton and not barca

who is the identical player, dare i ask?

That injury looks to have stalled him a bit, and before he came to you, looked like he could be top draw. Only shows that in patches.

He is slow, but quick with his feet, dig difference.

Osman.

Mark Davies seems to be quicker with the ball at his feet than when it isn't. It's odd. Reminds me very much of (a poor man's) Gazza the way he is able to accelerate with the ball and the ease he can get past players with the ball stuck to his feet.

He's definitely improved his 'end product' since playing at the head of the 4-5-1 formation. He's scored as many in the last dozen games than he's scored since he joined. If only he was as good when we DON'T have the ball.

.. but as Homer's alluded to above, if he was the complete package we wouldn't have signed him for ?1m from Wolves nor would he still be here.

He seems to be well liked by pundits and non Bolton fans....and he is Welsh FFS !!

Is he? I thought he was from Wolverhampton.

Why did I think he was Welsh !?!?!

If owen loves 4-4-2, mavies cant play in a 2 man midfield, 4-5-1 seems to suit, then why not play 4-4-1-1 and have Mavies behind the striker, like spurs play van der vaart behind the striker.

wrong thread, sorry

You qualify for Wales for having davies as your surname

fantastic little player and gazza was 23 when he got is first englang cap

Last similar type player was Guthrie and he went there and since done nowt. However, Mavies is a bit special, no doubt Coyle at the end of the season would love to flog him on to bring in a few more Burnley players of Donkey quality.

Isn't he under contract until 2015? I know it means nothing but at least we would command and half decent fee if we went down.

Guthrie has played as many games as Davies this year, and in a top 8 team. Hardly nothing.

half as many.

guthrie is decent and unlucky to have cabaye and tiote ahead of him

has he?

guthrie doesn't get in when they are at full strength, he's not done that much for them, mi geordie mate says he's ok when he does play (had a couple of good games when stepping in of late, but that's it)

never rated guthrie when he was at our place either

Guthrie couldn't get in the team ahead of Nolan or Barton either.

He's decent, but not much more than that IMO. Mark Davies is the better prospect.

He's going to play for England though!

and England are going change the formation just to suit him!!!

(its not that his fault he cant play 442, its everyone one around him)

Do you have insider info on who the new manager is and what formation he'll play?

Just as a point though, Redknapp prefers to have a midfielder (VDV) pushed forward playing in the hole behind a lone striker (Adebayor). I guess that makes Van Der Vaart shit though as he struggles in a 4-4-2.
