February 17, 201214 yr Recently got Terry Pratchet's new book in audio format (read by Tony Robinson) for my Dad for Christmas. Still in hospital and not really well enough to listen to it. Got one a few years back for the wife's grandad, after he suffered a heart attack and went into hosptial. Apparently listenning to it was one of the last things he did before suffering another and dieing. Don't think I'll get another
February 17, 201214 yr I've listened to a few audio books when driving about, I find it quite a pleasurable experience if ti's a decent book. It's certainly better than listening to those two wankers Hawksbee & Jacobs on Talksport

October 3, 20232 yr Fucking hell, I'm reviving a thread that's been dead for 11 years. Listened to 'O Brother' by John Niven over the last week or so whilst driving about. Talk about hard-hitting. It's a biographical memoir about his brothers suicide that alternates between pre and post his death. There's plenty of dark humour, but the final chapter is probably the most harrowing, heart-wrenching thing I've ever listened to. Edited October 3, 20232 yr by Cheese

October 4, 20232 yr Currently reading Show dog. The story of Phil Knight who founded Nike which is good. Recently read Redemption, another good un, former armed robber who turned his life around to become a top international Triathlete. I believe both have the audio version. Going to start on the Midwife of Auschwitz soon.

Love a good podcast - never got into audio books though for some reason. Might give them a whirl, but I can't keep up with all the podcasts at the moment I want to listen to.

October 26, 20232 yr Just getting to the end of "The Real Great Escape" by Guy Walters (although not read by him). A definitive account of the lives of POW's in Stalag Luft 3 - obviously mainly based around the planning and executing of escapes. It's 13 hours long, and goes into massive detail. Very good if you're into that kind of thing.
