I don't think any of us folk who live in the real world do think standing on a terrace is unsafe.

 

Sadly, after what Liverpool fans did to their own in 1989 I don't believe we'll ever see terracing allowed at a football match in this country again. I hope I'm wrong.

So, if I've got this right, it means that if I get a season ticket for this new fangled terrace, I have to stand in the same spot for every game and potentially I'm stuck with a bell-end in front of me moaning and whingeing all season? Similarly, if the person behind me is of small to average height then he/she won't be able to see past the back of me for a season.

Exacertally, Darren. At Macc a lad I know kindly let me stand in front of him and the lad in front of him made sure there was a gap for me to peer through. That's because we could stand where we want. What if I had a ticket behind a longshanks you? If I sat on the barrier to see, the Orange lads'll have my arm up my back, escorting me out before kick off.

At Burnden, in the last couple of years, I used to go to the game with three or four mates. None of us under 6ft1. We'd turn up bang on KO and then for the next five mins, after much, "You're not fckung standing there" and jabs in the back we'd finally end up in position where everyone was happy. That's clearly not going to be an option.

 

... unless the plan is everyone has to get to the game at 2.30pm and then someone arranges everyone in a school photo stylee.

only place I could imagine it might be considered is nobead corner - there's no chance they'd do west and north lower and imagine half the east lower would still want to sit down - so a few blocks in the east corner under the score board and possibly one or two in the south - would they let away fans stand though?

I stood very safely at Macc this year it was still 2012 and it was definately a football match, so safe standing does have a place in modern football despite what the Hillsborough Supporters think - it's fucking nonsense that you can stand at lower league grounds but not in the prem - if liverpool drew Macc in the cup would they insist on temporary seating going in.

 

It's the nanny state gone made and it pisses me right off - how the fuck they get away with this when what 3-4-5 new rugby league grounds have gone up with terracing in the last 2 or 3 years - what we saying it's ok if rugby league fans die watching sport but not us.

Absolute bollocks that is, everybody knows that you had to be in Burnden Park at least 2 to 3 hours before kick off or you were locked out, due to us having capacity crowds every week becuase the ground was closer to the town centre

I have an mildy amusing story about being on the Manny Road North terracing when it was nigh on empty and a man in a mac standing a little too near me.

What Albert posted is pretty much what the stadia in Germany are like.

 

As long as theres 'problems with violence and general anti-social behaviour' at the footy the anti football fan lobby will have enough ammo to prevent the return of real terracing.
