Do people still have rice pudding with a blob of jam in the middle?

I've not had it since school, but remember it used to sicken me when most folk used to mix it all up so it looked like a bowl of pink sick.

Really gets on my tits when people can't hold a knife and fork properly. It's staggering how many people hold their fork like this.

Grrrrr.

And it's in the wrong hand.

any of you ever tried a century old egg?

I've had that on a couple of occasions, it's revolting. It tastes like river sludge.

Another thing the chinese like, that I think is revolting, is Abalone. Proper vile, although it is supposed to be somewhat of a delicacy

Fcuking hell - they go crazy for that shit here. The abalone fishing season here lasts for 1 hour for only 6 Sunday mornings (7am-8am) for the year! The sea is like a threshing machine with orientals and a few in the know locals making the most of it. Fisheries Dept protect it all year round due the the ridiculously high price it fetches.

Very few can cook it so that it melts in the mouth. It usually has the texture of an old boot sole but, when it is done right, it is pretty good.

To be fair, the occasions when I've had it the texture has certainly been more "old boot" than "melt in't mouth" - I am also aware that it costs an absolute fortune as well, and so have felt obliged to eat it when presented, even though I'm not overly keen on it

You ever had Sea Cucumber Bolty? - get some of that down you if you want to experience something grim

Got a mate who has to work in China often and to use his quote 'those dirty fuckers would suck the shit of out a chickens arse and call it a delicacy'.

He travels with monster munch, Karl Pilkington style

As soon as you hear the words "this is a special local delicacy" you just know something very grim is coming your way............apart from on Saturday, when there I was sat in absolute dread and then this prawn soup type thing arrived which was rather pleasant. In the main though, the word delicacy generally means "shitty tasting food"

I have mentioned to some of my colleagues over there that they eat some disgusting shit, and to be fair, one of them did remind me that people in the UK do sometimes eat Stilton, which they see as being absolutely vile.............and they do have a point

Aye.

If they come here and got a 'local delicacy', it would be sommat like a Greggs dummy so yeah, I can see their point.

PIGS TROTTERS

talking of local delicacies.....

Anybody here ever eat tripe? - I don't just mean having tried it many years ago, I mean actually eat it by choice. I'm not sure I know anybody who eats it at all. I presume it's food for owd duffers.

I'll be honest, I've never tried it, although probably would if I knew where to get it, and what to do with it if I did get some

Used to eat it regular as a nipper when visiting my grandad, honeycomb with vinegar. Not had it for many a long year but you can get it on Bolton meat and fish market.

Recipe for Madeira Tripe

My dad used to eat tripe. He'd keave it in the smaller kitchen sink, fuck knows why, do you need to drain the stuff? I'm sure it was just to wind me up. It can't be tasty, not having that.

i used to like cowheel

That was another one.

Dirty bastards!

I enjoyed the tripe soup in Plovdiv in the star wars bar on the way to Bourgas.

I had a disaster in France when I ordered andouilette by accident, which is a sort of pig colon sausage. For one it stinks of actual shit and then when you cut in all these ribbons of coloon and intenstine fall out onto the plate. I began to feel quite unwell. But you know what they say, when in Rome, eat pig colon. But I would class it as a bad experience.

French andouillette, on the other hand, is an
and can be an interesting challenge even for adventurous eaters who don?t object to the taste or aroma of
. It is sometimes eaten cold, as in picnic baskets. Served cold and sliced thinly, the smell, taste, and texture may be mistaken for an andouille [a milder, less stinky sausage], but on closer inspection the texture is considerably more rubbery and the meat has a more feces-like flavor. By contrast, many French eateries serve andouillette as a hot dish, and foreigners have been repulsed by the aroma, to the point where they find it inedible (see external links). While hot andouillette smells of
, food safety requires that all such matter is removed from the meat before cooking. Feces-like aroma can be attributed to the common use of the pig?s colon (
) in this sausage, and stems from the same compounds that give feces some of its odors. (

Now then, can o worms here old chum. Me grandad used to relish it swimming in vinegar and with raw chopped onion. Steak and cowheel pie too - sucking the juices out of the heelbones. I used to feel sick at the thought so, imagine my surprise turning up at the wifes familys gaff in Salerno for the first time and eating all of this ace pasta and seafood and some fantactic tomatoey stew which I thought the main ingredient of was calamari. Yep, it was tripe and it was fcuking spectacular. Still the only way I can eat it but a seriously good and nutritious thing to eat.

Yummy, food that actually smells of shit.

Then again, the dirty animals who eat parmesan (which actually DOES smell of sick) I guess would eat this no problem?
