Sweep Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Having spent most of his career in the lower divisions he won't be rolling in it in comparison to every other prem footballer. One last payday. exactly, whilst his stock is hight he may as well do everything he can to engineer a final payday. Even now I'll imagine he's on a very low wage compaired to other "average" PL players. I don't blame him at all, when he was a Shrewsbury a couple of seaosn ago, I'll bet he was only on ?500 per week or so, so he certainly won't be rolling in it Quote
Carlos Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 That's not Norwichs's fault though, he won't be skint, surely he should be happy with his lot and see out the contract he agreed to? Quote
Sweep Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 surely he should be happy with his lot and see out the contract he agreed to? Sadly, that's not how it works in the modern game is it, I wish it was though. Grant Holt is not really ant different to any other footballer, he's had a good season and now wants to have his wage increased, no matter if that's at Norwich or not. I can understand his thinking, but conversely, wouldn't it be good if clubs said that players needed to have a wage reduction if they had been God awful during the previous season! Quote
DazBob Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 As stated above Holt will be earning a a fraction of what other strikers in the Barclays Premier League - strikers who have performed to nowhere near the standard that he has done this season. He's 31 years old now and this is his last chance to get a 'big' contract. Due to the journey he's made to get to this level he'll not have millions in the bank and be able to live the life of luxury his peers will be able to. Wouldn't any of us do exactly as he's doing? With regards to the contract he only signed last summer, well, sadly this means nothing in terms of loyalty, but at least it does give Norwich some protection and will mean they can ask for a bigger fee. Let's be honest though, despite so many saying, "So what" and "It's his last chance of a big payday so good on him" ... if Holt was a Bolton player this thread would already be 10 pages of abuse. DIPS Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 That's not Norwichs's fault though, he won't be skint, surely he should be happy with his lot and see out the contract he agreed to? My line of thinking too. Quote
Traf Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 ... if Holt was a Bolton player this thread would already be 10 pages of abuse. But he isn't. And if my aunty had a cock... Wait, hang on, that won't work: she does have a cock. Quote
DazBob Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 My line of thinking too. Put yourself in his boots. Let's say you're getting ?10k per week and will be doing so for another 2 years. Your agent rings you up and says he's been speaking with other clubs and can get you ?25k per week for another 3 years. Bearing in mind you don't already have millions in the bank already, you'd be willing turn down approx ?1.5m (after tax) so that Norwich's fans don't think you're a cunt? Remember, this isn't a multi-millionaire like Ashley Cole who was outraged years ago when Arsenal offered him 'only' ?60k per week. This is someone who has played in the lower leagues for most of his career and this is his one chance and his only to ever earn the kind of money he never dreamed he'd get the chance to earn. Quote
DazBob Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 But he isn't. And if my aunty had a cock... Wait, hang on, that won't work: she does have a cock. Is she called Bob? Quote
Rembrandt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 The main problem with Holt's case is that he's unlikely to have a similarly good season next season. 31 years old, 2nd season syndrome and all that. Maybe other clubs suspect that. Quote
Traf Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Is she called Bob? No, she's called Justin. She's only got a 3 inch cock. Quote
Zico Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Let's be honest though, despite so many saying, "So what" and "It's his last chance of a big payday so good on him" ... if Holt was a Bolton player this thread would already be 10 pages of abuse. aye, was about to say the same - mark fish for example it's like most of these type of things in footy - we can be reasonable and open minded when it ain't happening to us Quote
jayjayoghani Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 aye. there was a fair few for hanging Reo-Coker we're by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen Quote
Arrested development Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Maybe it's about money with holt, but i reckon it's more to do with England. Over the past month or so people have been talking about him as a genuine possibility to play up top for england. He probably thinks at his age he needs to move now and play for a bigger club to have any chance of a call up. If lambert goes to villa, then i think holt may follow. Quote
Ani Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 To paraphrase Martin Samuel who is spot on as usual "At the age of 27, Grant Holt moved from Nottingham Forest to Shrewsbury for ?170,000.That's how good a player Grant Holt is. He was fortunate that Paul Lambert picked him up late in his career and has a way of playing that gets the best out of him." Was talking to a Norwich fan about this yesterday, he said he was sign by Gunn not Lambert, not sure if that is right but he said there is more to this than the usual charlie big bollocks, somethign has gone on at the club, maybe based on promises of what he would get if Norwich or he reached a certain level the club are stalling on this and he is doing this not to a transfer but to get the 'issues' sorted. Like a say this was from a Norwich fan, but tkae it with a pinch of salt, if you read some of the shit bolton fans come out with on here about bolton it shows how much fans sometimes know. Quote
Traf Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Gunn signed Holt and Norwich have offered him much more money! Quote
