This Country - Starting To Grow On Me

Well after a scenic walk last weekend around Malham Cove in the Yorkshire Dales, a wander round Lymm Dam yesterday and then a walk around Castleton in the Peak District today.... got to say this old country of ours still has what it takes!

Yesterday, a long yomp round Rivi before the tourists. Today, an afternoon that the cricket in the sun with the pike as a backdrop..

I keep hearing this country's a dump. Maybe I'm lucky not to have to see much of the apparent shittness with my own eyes.

London is a dump and is the only place that matters

Perhaps it's because you see it everyday in Horwich, you just don't notice it anymore. ;)

Meanwhile,in the country hamlet of Smithills the sun is setting over winter hill after another scorching cloudless day,the beers have been flowing, and it's just been another day in paradise.

Sunset over winter hill smoking a spliff, mid day sun over Ditchling Beacon having an ice cream, afternoon beers at Arundel, early summer's morning in Cambridge after a very late night, late afternoon in Ambleside. Just a few lovely memories that remind me in this weather there's no place like this great little island.

Did a girl from Horwich fire you off or something? It's clearly a fixation for you.

London is a dump

It depends where you go, some of it is shit yes, but some parts of it are great. To say that it is all a dump is a bit ignorant

, afternoon beers at Arundel

That's a fine town, I don't think there is a more beautiful town in all of England

Not the point being made

Given that London is the only place that matters to the media folks, it's quite astonishing what a shitholemuch of it is

It truly is amazing what a few days of sun can do. :)

It's just dawned on me that i've never ever dabbled with a Norwicher, Little Hulton was about the lowest i ever stooped. :D

That truly is the women of Horwich's loss.

 I've retired now apparently. :D

I love London, took me a good while but once you learn to get yourself around the centre without the tube you'll find it a great place.

If you think of it as one massive city rather than a collection of towns i think it's difficult to get your head round. I know certain pockets really well but you won't get me to Shoreditch or Hackney - just not my cup of tea. But on the rare occasions I'm out on a Friday night in town it can be the best city in the world.

But then Manchester's great, Liverpool's top notch, Bristol cracking erm...Im not fond of Birmingham or Sunderland mind you.

As for Arundel it is stunning but a bit too small to live there for me. You are right, when we play Brighton next season you could do worse than pop over for a look.

Looks horrible? You can't have been to that many places then. Still, each to their own.

You forgot to mention how shit it smells.

Arundel is the picture book quintesential English town. Its a place that those of us from Bowton are taught to love as somat that we should be proud of and that represents what England is to the rest of the world. We fawn over this and doff our flat caps in reverence. But will we ever live there? is this truly the land of singing song thrushes and nightingales on the dusk of a temperate evening warmth that we all live in 365 days of the year?

Wake up and smell the coffee once it starts to rain again boys and girls, and decide how you yourself can make the shit laden place you live in here and now better.

give me one nice looking place in london?
