July 11, 201214 yr got this email update You will be able to see some clips of the interviews on the site from 9 July 2012 but bear in mind that they still need quite a bit of technical work and that we may use different clips in the final cut. Web Site This has been updated and expanded to include not only information on the documentary, but also some background on the research that's been completed. Cannes Film Festival The Director, one of the Producers and the Sales Agent attended the Cannes Film Festival in May to meet the sales agent and others to discuss and promote the film. Finance In March we presented to a group of NW investors as the result of which two said they'd invest. More interestingly they introduced us to a company that manages the finances of a number of north-west Premier League players and high net worth people and we've met and discussed options there. We hope to get a decision on whether they are going to help raise funds for us in the next few days. We've also had a meeting with second, major, Soho based Post Production company and we have received a letter detailing their intention to invest £211,500 into the WW project. Efforts with other production companies and potential investors to raise the balance of funding needed continue. Pinewood It looks unlikely that WW will be chosen as one of the four films Pinewood will invest in this year. They say they want films with “access to market” and in our case this would mean contracting with local distributors before we've shot any film. Distributors will only pay peanuts for this (on a good day and after lots of beer - and they'd probably pinch the peanuts from the bar anyway) so we aren't going down that route. However, we'll continue discussions with Pinewood Studios and may base the film project there if they give us the sort of financial deal they've been talking about. We're getting and comparing several costing proposals at the moment to see if Pinewood can be competitive. Cast Other good news is that we had a meeting with Sean Maguire who is even more excited and enthusiastic about the film than Bradley Walsh. (Which is saying something). Sean then flew to Los Angeles and has told us that he's speaking to investors both in LA and London (he has his own production company here) as well asking his footballing friends if they will appear in the film. These friends include some very well known names as well as the rest of the LA All Stars soccer team that he plays for. We've asked BWFC if some of the players can appear as players too and had a positive reaction - provided there aren't any heavy tackles. Contracts and distribution Shoreline (the contracted worldwide distributor) has told us that, based on our proposed budget they can guarantee a UK cinema release. In addition, we have the major Airline film distributor for the Pacific region emailing to say he'll definitely release it on 30 airlines. General We have been deliberately holding back from sending out another News Update since it will include that we're talking to this company, that company, two very wealthy NW businessmen, a similar person from Qatar, and two others, all of whom could fund the whole thing quite easily and all of whom could make a decision tomorrow. Rather than say “Decision could be any day now” and then it not happening we're waiting until we have solid news. In spite of that, we appreciate that people want to know - which is really encouraging - and we'll send out another general News Update as soon as there is positive news on the finance front. Best wishes The WW Team You've been sent this document because you've expressed interest in the Wartime Wanderers Film Project (or possibly because we're trying to interest you). If you do not want to receive any more communications like this please reply with 'UNSUBSCRIBE' as the subject. Thanks. How's it all going? 9 July 2012 A long and frustrating time since the last update. The team is still working away at developing the project and there are some good, new contacts on the investment front. We think we're gradually getting closer. Documentary As mentioned in the last News Update, as part of the supporting activity for Wartime Wanderers we have started filming a documentary about the team and football during WW2. We've already had a film crew interview Danny Winter's wife, Ellen, in South Wales who is 91, 93 year old Albert Lewis who was with them in France and through Dunkirk and 91 year old Col. Dennis Walton, who was with the Wanderers in Italy in 1943 and very high in the Territorial Army. All gave good, interesting accounts of the men and the times including some really good anecdotes. We then asked BWFC if we could use facilities at The Reebok Stadium to film more interviews and they were kind enough to let us use rooms overlooking the pitch to interview Harry Goslin's son Bill, Ray Westwood's son, Alan, the club Secretary and Historian, Simon Marland and Joe Foster, the founder of Reebok. The documentary film will follow some pre-war games, the lead up to war and the team's travels and games up to the return in 1945 as well as coverage of football at home during that time. The web pages can be accessed from the 'Documentary' tab at www.wartimewanderers.com .

Be great to see the film made as its a great story, thanks for the update JC, let's hope the finance comes forward if this was a bigger club it would have been over financed and made by now, hope someone realises its a story that needs to be told.
July 11, 201214 yr I put off reading that book for years, but got shivers down my spine when I eventually read it. Amazing story that would undoubtedly appeal to a wider audience than Bolton fans.
July 11, 201214 yr True, I use a role play based on the book with kids I work with and they are fascinated by the story of the Wartime Wanderers.
July 12, 201214 yr It's a great story, however so many years after the fact, &, as already mentioned, we're not Yoooniitteed, therefore, very unfortunately it'll all be very Mickey Mouse Pity. As todays society could learn alot from the social ethos of them days. Big Brother dickheads will give that channel 5 garbage bigger viewing figures than this film, by god I'm hoping I'm proved wrong, though I also fear I won't be
June 4, 201511 yr Read in the Bolton News today that this is due for release next year. Hope it finally gets done.
June 4, 201511 yr Read in the Bolton News today that this is due for release next year. Hope it finally gets done. Think the documentary is an attempt to drum up interest for the film. Fair play there trying to get the film off the ground without a great deal of encouragement it seems.
June 5, 201511 yr My mate says he's just seen Bradley Walsh coming out of Burnden Asda. Probably on his way to sign.
June 5, 201511 yr Looking at the website, it seems the budget for the film is only £5.6M - the fact they've not managed to raise such a small amount in the last 3 or 4 years would probably suggest that it's not going to be making onto our screens anytime soon. I can only think that the only way it would get the investment, would probably be to "jazz it up" a bit and move away from the actual story. At the end of the day, if you're not a Bolton fan, it might not come across as that appealing a story. If it was about Rochdale or Gillingham, would people be that bothered, probably not, so I can see why it's clearly not got much appeal outside of Bolton, hence the lack of interest in investing in it Even if the investment comes, and the film is made, where does it get shown? - no way in a million years would it be on at a Cinema, so it would likely end up on More4 or something like that and go straight to DVD, therefore never really being able to cover it's own costs

June 5, 201511 yr I got a bit bored with the book if we are all being honest. That's kind of my point, I read it and thought it was alright. If it had been about another towns team, I would have given up quite quickly. I loaned it to a mate of mine who is a Chelsea fan, who gave it me back a few weeks later and said he thought it a bit shit really - to be fair he did read all of it.

They should jazz the film up by chucking a few wizards and dragons in there. Maybe some scantly clad Totty on the sidelines?

June 5, 201511 yr If your an ancient Bolton fan its not a bad read , if your not ancient & not a Bolton fan you'll bin it three pages in, however the Munich thing was no more interesting apart from more of the team died but they weren't in a war either , unfortunately their brand is bigger .Still I hope they succeed with the film.
June 6, 201511 yr Somebody bought me the book and I've not read it. My copy is in a box in the garage. I'd have to start again anyway it's been that long since I read the first few pages.
October 17, 201510 yr From the Wartime Wanderers with this bit in the book written by SIR Nat All truly great teams possess an unbreakable unity which gives them the power to overcome their opposition whatever the circumstances. Their team spirit took them to great heights on the football field and transferred onto the battlefield when their country's need was greater Sums up our current plight I think. Stood and watched today a team of I'm alright Jack performances which has been endemic since Allardyce left A sad reflection on the Bolton player of today. Not fit to lace up their boots. First goal went in all hope was lost Pathetic when you look at things like those occurances in this book Poor
