Went to see Bert Royal & Vic Faulkener there with my Dad and Gran as a kid.

Bert Royal use to come in my mum and dads offy on TMR.

Bert Royal used to have the Top Bull on Bury Road I think, and another wrestler whose name escapes me, had the Man & Scythe at Kearsley near the Spread Eagle.

I used sup ale with Bert when I used to hang out round Bradshaw years back. What a gentleman.

Crusher Mason was my favourite at the Pembroke Halls in Walkden quality entertainment for a 13 year old.

Used to be great when owd grannies used to twat Kendo Nagasaki and Mick McManus with their handbags when they got thrown out of the ring.

 

What was that big Yorkie called? Shirley Crabtree or summat?

Bert Royal didn't have Top Bull, it was his dad another former wrestler Vic Hessel real name Faulkener who had Top Bull.

Not sure if Man @ Scythe might have been Jumping Jim Hussy or his son Rocky ? (can't think of his second name) who had a son who became a pro boxer with the same name.

Was brilliant saturday afternoon viewing..........and no play acting loke WWE or whatever it's called!

Jumping Jim Hussey had the Man & Scythe in Kearsley, he was Rollerball Rocco's dad.. Wild Angus used to go in there too.. Been knocked down now though and flats built there

Billy Howes used to have a small supermarket on Tong Rd Little Lever nr Bradley Fold, I used to fancy one of his posse of daughters in the late 60's early 70's.
