Bogdan And Penalties

I've said it before and I will say it again, Bogdan is truly dreadful with penalties. Yesterday, just prior to the kick being taken, Bogdan was stood BEHIND his line, with his hands down. He made no attempt to narrow the angles by stealing a few inches or even diving forwards, off his line. He did not move across his line, or spread himself. He did not delay the penalty by walking forwards, he did not show either corner by standing off centre and then moving back, to attempt to create indecision in the taker. No psyching out the taker but yes, he stuck to the rules. Often, saved penalties are when the keeper moves off his line. Often, missed penalties occur when the keeper psychs out the taker. Bogdan's record this season is nothing short of atrocious. As someone in NSL said yesterday " Andrews supreme confidence in penalty taking, stems from practising against Bogdan all week , scoring 300 out of 300!" I appreciate that the taker is always favourite but you can reduce the odds!

That is all

If we didn't give so many away it wouldn't be a fucking problem.

i'd prefer we were more preoccupied with preventing the fcukers

Totall agree but it's still a poor record. More missed in an average shoot out than against us.

Cheers echo, I would say surprised Lonergan ain't been given a go in the league considering his good game last week.

He dived the wrong way

Happens all the time

We have much much bigger problems

Im not a fan of Bogdan

but Lonegan was asked if he was dissapointed to be left out after his performance against Sunderland

he said no, he had to do more and didnt deserve to start as Bogdan has been our best player this season.

bogdan is a good keeper

but, he's not a patch on jussi

and jussi was fcuking shit

Penalties within a match and penalties to resolve a tied match are very different.

For one thing the shoot-out is after extra time and out field players are generally tired, or even nursing a knock.

For goalkeepers, facing 5 or more with a minute or two between each gives the opportunity to get into a groove. Almost like a training session.

Within a match (when penalties actually count as goals) the advantage is with the taker. He is nominated and is (or certaily should be) up for it. The keeper will have been involved in action before the awarded pen, which is not the situation in a post-match shoot-out.

So in essence a keeper will have had fuck all to do for 120 minutes prior to a shootout.?

Thinking that we need some stats, Malc

A post highlighting Bogdan as not saving enough pens is laughable. We should be more concerned with our tendency to concede them nearly every week.#uneducated

That's far too sensible for this site. You need to be far more utterly fucking ridiculous.

So it would seem...

Goes without saying but seeing that we have.......

How many pens have been in our games this season, both for and against ?

Bogdan is the least of our problems

That save from Rooney must have just been luck then.

and the one against brighton

was about 10 games and 83 penalties ago

what a load of bollocks,

YES we should be concentrating on not conceding penalties, YES we've got bigger things to worry about, but YES Bogdan has been absolutely shit at attempting to get anywhere near one of our numerous penalties conceded this season. As has been said, he's not good enough full stop.

His goalkicks practically invite us conceding penalties.

Get a fucking life

Bogdan is the least of our problems

Disagree, he is a problem, last week Lonergan commanded the defence much better, his presence was felt, Bogdan is a liability, and far too quiet around the box, a keeper needs experience and a maturity to bollock defenders, Bogdan has neither.

And that was Jussi's problem too, communication from the keeper is the most important on the pitch and Bogdan is rubbish at it. I do rate him as a shot stopper, but he will improve as soon as he starts communicating. You can't blame defenders for positioning if there's nobody telling them what to do.
